They’ve had numerous opportunities to re-print the card if they wanted too.
You’re obviously new to the DBS TCG. They advertised ToP as a short print from the very start. They told consumers that it would have a limited print.
You are literally talking about every fucking TCG’s problem for in-print cards… I mean seriously…
The game won’t actually need to survive for any specific card to rise or fall in value. It’s a simple supply and demand ratio that happens with literally everything in the world.
Small print run = limited accessibility. You’ve literally proved my point, so thanks.
No you wouldn’t. You’re all about $$$, not collecting, which I why I assume you don’t own a copy already.
Most of the cards with value are either SPR or SCR or rare promos. Literally like every other TCG. =\
That’s true, it’s all speculation. But to trash it like you have is just ridiculous. I have no idea why literally everything you write is so bitter. Cheer up man.
The only Score Entertaiment cards that PSA did grade were the Saiyan Saga Gold Foil Promo’s and the Championship cards (like Victorious and Champion’s Drill). The rest, will return like this from what I heard from friends.
All I’m pointing out to OP is that there’s many reasons why Awakened Power Goku could lose value compared to any established card in any other hobby at it’s price point. I don’t think there’s no hope for a strong collector base to develop, I just think PSA 10 Victory Strike Goku is overpriced at $1,000 - $1,200 USD. If I’m wrong… can’t win them all.
I’m not new to DBS. I need to live and breathe tcgs because it’s my job to sell this stuff. I need to watch the meta, pay attention to news and card values. Not going to reiterate anything more at this point.
As a person who has been collecting and selling this card game from the beginning, I have to agree with budget for most of his points. I understand Top was a limited print run but scr goku is only so high due to playability. All of the special rares have the exact same pull rate, 1 of each spr per case. So each special rare is just as “rare” as the secret rare but are at a fraction of the price since they’re not in meta.
Even if something changes to the game, I don’t think goku will drop to nothing since it’s a limited print run but, for all the players who don’t collect, they will flood the market trying to sell him and drive the price down. I’ll be a buyer of them if they fall but won’t be touching them at these prices.
You are correct that the newer sets have one special rare per box but the original sets, from galactic battle until colossal warfare (could’ve ended with top but I believe colossal warfare), had only one copy of each special rare per case. So, each case of 12 boxes would contain 1 secret rare and 4 special rares. However, as stated the 4 special rares would be 1 of each, thus making each specific special rare have the same pull rare as the secret rare. Theoretically, this would cause all of the special rares in top will have the same amount of copies in existence as the secret rare.
So I thought this was interesting and relevant: the PSA 10 pop on Awakened Power Goku has jumped from 88 to 113 since I posted last week and DACW is fireselling their remaining DBS product for less than cost.
In terms of future value it is all guess work, there are definitely indicators that this could be a bubble with TOP and its cards. That said it doesnt matter imo, Dbs cards are by far the best modern tcg product for english in both design and product quality. One thing i can say is the English side of modern pokemon is garbage and stale when compared, which has pushed me qne many others towards Dbs boxes simply because they are much more fun to open. It may not have the 20 years of history and nostalgia but it is a fun product which i hope gives english pokemon side a kick in the arse with the next gen coming up.
The prices are high because the cards are:* Hard to find (1/x boxes)
Very playable
Have amazing artwork
For many TCG’s just having the cards less available is enough to bump a card over the $100 price mark. Just check MTG Ultimate Masters set, it’s jam packed with cards $70-100 and $100-150 cards.
The fact that for DBSTCG cards go to $1000 also has to do with the overall hype. Many Dragonball fans got into the card game just for the amazing artwork. The players want these cards because they’re very playable and just the best card around and Bandai did an amazing job on making them rare enough chase cards to spike prices and boost box sales.
Dragon ball Z is of equal demand to Pokémon cards when it comes to artwork. That’s probably the only reason people are overpaying. Emphasis on overpaying. Personally I don’t like any of the new character artwork styles(not even Goku as much and he always looks badass), they truly are shiny though.
