What are your unpopular opinions in pokemon?

I don’t understand why PSA is so harsh when it comes to indents. I can only speak for myself, but I really don’t see why a tiny indentation on the back should hurt an otherwise Gem Mint card by four whole grades.

Which brings me to my next point.

There is too much focus on grades instead of actual condition. If you want to build a mint set, a great PSA 8 would be actually better than a questionable 9. Personally I start to regret having passed on good lower grade cards in the past because I cared too much about the cert, and now the higher grades start to get out of reach for me.

I think 99.9999% the weirdly textured oddly outlined half 3D half CG cards (see pic 1) are atrocious and are even worse than the bad CG/3D modeling from the early 2000’s (see pic 2). I can’t wait for this style of card to be out. I hate the textures, the colors, and especially the holo “patterns”, they look awful in photographs

edit: yes this includes the SV49 I think that card looks like dog

Yo, don’t be hating on Yuka Morii. That Jigglypuff is 100% handmade with clay.

Put sum respek on the name.

Looks dreadful with the Windows XP background.

I have no problem with clay cards (even the goofy ones) and I think they’re a pretty sick artistic liberty such as the one below. It’s how they tried to make it look semi-not clay with the white glow and the bad background

IDK if this will be unpopular but I love the set logo on the reverse holos and I wish it would be brought back

Ever heard of a little thing called SOUL?

There has never been a bad main-series Pokemon game. In fact, there has never been a mediocre or even just good main-series game. They are all simply degrees of exceptional and each game has multiple qualities which make it timeless. We have been spoiled with amazing games for so long that when one game is slightly less amazing than another we call it “bad.”

I now see why you were so eager to lock the Sword and Shield bashing topic…

My post was the last post on that thread calling the recent games extremely mediocre and that I even skipped the latest one didn’t go down well lol. Haha. But posting positives about the game on this thread definitely makes sense since it is an “unpopular opinion”

I’d definitely call it uninventive at this point

I find these to be so ugly and out of place, but that’s just me.

I hated these, but what I hate even more is the CG designed cards…which is all of the highly collectible cards these days. All the secret rare charizard arts are terrible in my opinion. Have Matsuhiro Arita(SP?) do some of those cards like they did with some of the tag team series.

if I knew how to use a computer I would post examples! Damn my learning disabilities!

Fighting type often makes for lazily designed Pokemon and doesn’t mesh with the other types. Flying type is superfluous and similarly doesn’t mesh (although it is less egregious than fighting type). Heracross should have been the version-specific rare bug to stand alongside Scyther in place of Pinsir in gen 1. The existence of two card versions of each fully evolved gen 2 starter in Neo Genesis is annoying and unsatisfying and one of each should have been chosen for inclusion instead. The fully evolved gen 1 starters should weigh substantially more than ~200 pounds each. Let’s just consider Charizard as an example of this. If Ash is roughly the average weight of a 10-year-old boy, which is about 70 pounds, then Charizard must be a lot more than 200 pounds given the glaring size difference between the two:

All English cards are “foreign” and objectively inferior to their Japanese counterparts.

The belief that “true” collectors should never take into consideration the overall market or life changing amounts of money is inherently classist.

Nothing in this thread has phased me until this. You win the thread.

I’m not really sure what a “true collector” is, but I don’t think anyone should judge anyone else for how they take enjoyment from their collection. If someone enjoys watching the value of their collection go up and down then that’s absolutely fine.

i don’t understand the whole buy what u like bs. i mean cant you buy what you like and also buy sumthing with a gud price growth history? and price stablity? + theres a lot of misleading people away from the investing, hustling, flipping mentality in pokemon which i dont understand as well. if you don’t think money is important why do u have a job?

dont judge me for my unpopular belief please and thank you.
