90% of BGS 9.5s are a complete scam , and are really just PSA 9s.

Depends what you mean by a scam. A BGS 9.5 is a high quality card. And BGS isn’t doing anything wrong with the way they’re grading them.

But in practice do I think that the vast majority of Pokemon BGS 9.5s exist because they’d be PSA 9s and sellers are trying to get the most bang for their buck? Yes, I do think that. Whether or not that should be called a “scam” is in the eye of the beholder. IMO it’s only dodgy when sellers try to act like what they have is basically a PSA 10 and they put things like “PSA 10?” in the title.

On one hand, I see the use of a 9.5 to distinguish between a 9 and a 10 but the other hand, I don’t think graders can grade accuratelyenough for their to be a 9.5 grade.

I sympathize with the Rocket trio

Unpopular opinion (because I too love seeing my collection go stonkoids), is that I know for a fact there are some people who came over from the crypto space with the sole intent of buying up product at record prices, holding, and dumping it at the right time. I’ve been literally told this, by some people who have been selling to the recent “celebs” that I’m sure you’ve recently heard of. So, yes, prices have been going up in general, but the next wave it going to get stupid. $1,000 caterpies anyone??

I’ll take 2, and do you have weedles?

You joke but I could actually see a legendary collection reverse caterpie going for $1k in the near future considering a rattata went for $500 not too long ago

Legendary collection had a small print fun and the reverses are known to be really hard to grade. If anything, I would say legendary collection is still really undervalued. Especially the trio of zard, blastoise and Venusaur. Also still the most beautiful reverses in the game!

I’m mostly a buyer and from my perspective I don’t mind them putting PSA 10 in the title. Pokémon is very heavily PSA dominated and my searches always ends up being Pokémon xyz PSA. I’m never searching for BGS and this way at least I get some options in my search and maybe I can catch a deal on a BGS card. As I see it, it’s a win-win for the both the buyer and the seller.

I don’t mind if they have a BGS card and it says psa in the title because like you said, not usually looking for bgs, but I do hate the PSA 10 REGRADE?!?! listings.

ya the “regrade” usually triggers me as well. But I have seen them on a lot of PSA posts lately as well. Especially the “PSA 8 regrade to PSA 9?” post. And usually when I actually see those cards, they’re lucky to even get an 8. The regrade posts I definitely consider an immoral marketing tactic and the community can definitely do without

I hate it when folks say things like “oh, this is a BGS X, so it’s a guaranteed PSA Y”. If I’ve learned one thing about PSA, it’s that there is no such thing as a “guaranteed” grade with them.

Best I can do is a mysterious fossil or clefairy doll

This is something I only realised yesterday and I don’t believe it’s something which has been shared here yet. For that I can only assume this will go down well:

I prefer holofoil cards without swirls.

Hear me out though, I like holo swirls - I think they’re pretty - but the problem I have with them is that they draw your attention away from the rest of the artwork. If given the choice between a card with a swirl and a card without a swirl I’d prefer the latter.

I don’t know if this would be unpopular.

If you have most of the cards you want then increased exposure will make your collection more valuable to others.
If you have few of the cards you want then to continue on collecting you’ll have to spend more money and it’s possible to be priced out of your very own collection goals.

@assassin5757 I largely agree. I am pointing out the humor in those expressing the benefits of increased exposure being the one to benefit from it while expecting everyone else to be equally enthused and if not it’s selfish.

That makes a lot more sense. One positive aspect I’ve found is if I wanted to change collection goals (as someone who collects primarily base - fossil including graded commons), is that my collection has appreciated more than gold stars/crystals and especially Japanese vintage. If someone collected other vintage cards they could always change over to modern full arts too. But I feel for people who want 1st edition base and their budget only allowed for a few holos a year.

Here’s one: Japanese gold stars look far worse than English
