What are your unpopular opinions in pokemon?

@azulryu you see an angry chicken, I see a fierce martial warmachine with pure lust for destruction; reminiscent of ancient Japanese fighter depictions.
But art is subjective, no worries :stuck_out_tongue:

Agreed man! I always thought the head and face for Gyarados on this card just looked too thin compared to prior Gyarados cards, and it doesn’t even look like much of a Gyarados outside the colorings.

You know what looks like a scrawny angry chicken? Base set charizard

Very niche thing to have an opinion about and I’m not even sure if it’s unpopular.
Imakuni’s PC is soo much cooler than Bill’s PC.

The ven diagram of people who think there is secret warehouses of sealed vintage boxes and people who hoard cases of modern boxes is a circle.

With each new generation, the Pokemon franchise is becoming less famous for its Pokemon and more famous for its waifus. If this trend continues, the most expensive modern cards will be female trainers.

Pokemon will not get less popular over time, regardless of the quality of the games. Gamefreak pushed out SW/SH so quickly and half assed it too, and the community is so obsessed that they made constant excuses for them and the game broke records for sales…

It’s actually a shame when you think about it. With such a loyal community, you’d think that nintendo would make an attempt to push out quality titles instead of rushed games(yes they’re still relatively fun, but it’s pokemon. A 4 year old at the helm could make pokemon still be extremely fun. The problem is that there’s a seeming lack of effort that other A+ titles such as BOTW have)

Pretty much everything gets less popular over time. Even God

It’s a shame because Nintendo generally strives for quality. They’ve constantly been shipping out revolutionary or instant classics for decades but they don’t seem to hole gamefreak to the same standard.

That’s all due to Nintendos new strategy since mid 2000s when innovation became their main focus and it got worse after 2013 when they released the 2DS basically canceling out the whole innovation slam they did. Nintendo is all about now just remaking, rereleasing and “making the new generation enjoy the old games”. Instead of an amazing new Mario (or god forbid Metroid or F-Zero) for their 35th anniversary they release a FULL PRICED game of old Gamecube/Wii remasters. And that’s Nintendo these days; just doing Remasters, Deluxe versions and nothing new. Recycling the old formula till they see the sale numbers drop, and sadly (and maybe not so sorry) to say; Nintendo fans eat it like the sheep they are.

GameFreak and Creatures got nothing to do with the game development any more. It’s all other departments within Nintendo that do it. These days they nothing more than what 5ban graphic is; a studio making Pokémon models and graphics for another part of Nintendo to use in whatever game they want to.

Probably not an actual unpopular opinion, but I saw a post on reddit that made me consider this:

Retail stores both in person and online should place a limit on pre-orders and how much product a person can actually buy at one time. Pokemon should be for kids first and collectors/investors second.

I have 5 unpopular pokemon opinions.

  1. there needs to be a poop pokemon

  2. players should not be required to shower before going to tournaments

  3. base set needs a huge reprint. its greedy how people hoard all the cards yet i cant afford a common playset

  4. tag teams need to be banned. was a broken mechanic and is bad for the tcg

  5. sword and shield is the best gen of all time

CGC is not a better grading service for grading a wider array of cards when they don’t have sufficient authentification of those cards. Also, BGS already grades whatever you send in, which is honestly not good (look at authentic altered cards). PSA may have its faults but requires sufficient documentation for authentication which make sense and is a good thing.

People need to stop acting like “gray stamps” are some sort of premium variant of 1st edition Base Set, unless you can manage to sell them to the one person in the world who has ever paid a premium for them (GemMintPokemon).

It’s literally just a bad ink job as a result of the ink running low, similar to how some signatures on cards receive a low grade for Auto.

“Gray stamp” is not one set level of ink but a whole range of slightly less ink to a lot less ink. It’s not really a true variant of the stamp (as thick and thin stamps are very defined variants).

I personally would avoid a gray stamp because they look like exactly what they are - cards that were poorly stamped.

If anything people should pay more attention to how the cards themselves can have variations in the color of the printing, from lighter to darker.

PSA 8.5’s don’t bother me and I don’t mind them in my collection.

The modern EX, GX and V concept is overdone and pokemon needs to move on to something new.
