What are your unpopular opinions in pokemon?

ACE slabs are fun!

I think misprints, test prints, and factory rejects are the real historians of the hobby.

They’re like time-traveling mistakes with better stories than most PSA 10s.

We spend so much time chasing perfection, we forget the fun stuff usually got tossed in the trash — right next to history.

I’m not huge on any of the SARs for the Mega Pokémon from Mega Evolution. They are all forgettable to me, like 5/10 or lower.

I hope the unrevealed Mega SAR is a banger

As a huge Gardevoir fan (Hoenn is my fave reigon, had one on my Sapphire team) this art doesn’t work for me.

While I love the stlye and can’t wait for more from Raita Kazama, the regular Gardevoir looks like it is dead and Ralts is getting elbowed in the groin and has broken its neck.

Kudos! I actually like the art on the card but with your perspective, now I cannot unsee Ralts getting sucker punched in the jewels. The star near the head just looks like the Street Fighter stun animation.

Cheers!

The shift from 2D to 3D graphics made the games so much worse

This is the unpopular opinions thread. I think had you said the reverse you would’ve sparked a spicy debate.

I think 5ban did a fantastic job during the BW-XY era.

Somehow I believe both statements are true lol.

Megas definitely feel powerful and I don’t dislike the vibrant colors and over the top pose. They could be overwhelming like a fever dream though, and it’s hard to understand what’s going on, on the card.

I don’t dislike the Mega EX cards but they aren’t my favourite as they feel too busy. I have always loved the language-swap concept for the attack names though.

The new megas look more like dragon ball cards.

Still garbage

The state of this hobby is wholly unsustainable, and I’m not even talking about the travesty that is the current modern market.

Vintage (WOTC-Advanced) PSA 9’s I was buying just earlier this year for anywhere between 1-2K USD (and had been relatively stable around those price points for quite awhile) are now going for 3-4K. Some even more. Regular holos jumping from maybe a couple hundred to eclipsing a band within the span of 4-6 months. Even the generic mid era stuff is jumping infinitely faster than any regular stock or asset class, and that simply isn’t normal. This all just screams dirty bubble market. I don’t like the precedent, and I don’t think this is healthy.

Pokemon is not more popular than ever, Pokemon is more profitable than ever.

Flip coins are more fun to collect than cards/singles right now.

I miss theme decks.
While the advent of V/ex/Deluxe/League battle decks has been a good thing, I miss getting new (crappy) theme decks with each new set.
As a kid, I was always happy to get a new deck as I could either play with it, take it apart to make new decks, or trade away all of my dupes with my friends to get other things.
Given today’s market, releasing theme decks with each set would help to ensure that something remains on store shelves for the kids even after the booster and blister packs are all disappeared.

(not unpopular) Speaking of pre-constructed decks, can we go back to having custom art made for them that matches the booster packs?
The “art” that we’ve been getting for the ex and Deluxe Battle Decks with the digital render of the main card being pasted onto the front is so ass. I get that the decks are no longer timed to release with a new set but TPCI certainly has the money to commission art for them.

Woah there buddy if all the cards were valued at $1 it would still be as popular :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Yup, and I think it’s going to leave a lot of people scrambling in the coming years when this wave of chaos inevitably ends.

I think we’re starting to slowwwwwwly see that in the modern market already.
