I’ve had countless sales due to the high priced rare cards in my store. Not just direct sales, overall consumer confidence. I also sold one of my high listed art academy copies for 32k, which is one of many sales over time.
The main downside are the crazy messages; bullying/harassment, people asking for free cards, moms saying their kid lost an illustrator on the playground, you name it, I’ve heard it.
But as @pfm said, the best thing is to not care what anyone thinks, as peoples opinions are overvalued more than anything listed on ebay.
I love Gengar in the games, a lot of his TCG illustrations feel flat, you could say lifeless.
I’d love to see more dynamic poses of Gengar floating around a haunted mansion, peeking though walls like in the anime. Rather Gengar often is drawn standing with both legs on the ground.
I will say masaki, neo dark, prime and non-holo Sabrina’s Gengar are great. I think haunter has better arts overall because Haunter can’t be depicted standing flat-footed on the ground.
Gengar has a design I like, not love. For me Masaki was the only decent looking Gengar where he looked like he was about to do something unti this card came to be (the best Gengar card and only one other than Masaki I would want in real life)
Pocket Monsters does make more sense because it is a description, not a brand name, unlike Pokémon. Being less literal it’s more “language agnostic”, so easier to market globally.
Plus the original reminds me of the earlier, even more literally named franchise, Monster in My Pocket (which I loved as a kid!). Come to think of it, is this why they changed to Pokémon??
On that note, I’ve periodically watched this card be re-listed every month and marked up for years and years and I want to say it started out around $5k or something. The price gets increased anytime the market gets within about 10% of its price. One time I almost just said screw it and bought it. Now I kind of wish I had.
But what I really want to know is if anyone ever paid the BIN price only to have the seller cancel the purchase and re-list higher? I bet they have. That’s where I would draw the line on do whatever you want to do with your card, list however you want, when you really have no intention to sell if someone calls their bluff and presses BIN and pays the inflated price and seller cancels it and relists even higher. Maybe someone on here owns this card. If so, let me just say I am tired of seeing your card in my searches year after year like some flex ig post that keeps getting recycled into my feed. This card needs to be freed from its abusive pimp and liberated from slavery. It deserves to live a free and happy existence in my collection. Because that’s where it belongs.
And while I’m at it stop stealing your Mom’s social security check and telling her she’s not allowed to leave the home because the air is toxic and there are zombies about.
Oh, and it ain’t that damn cool and I will never buy anything from you anyway, so quit the flex/fishing game you are playing. I am officially bored with your nonsense.
