This isnt the “tame opinion” thread
I think they’re really unique and fun to collect. Also the artwork on most of them are amazing in my opinion. Like this Lugia
So, I also look at them and think… “meh” BUT they are “mo bettuh” than the banana yellow… maybe a nice mix of silver and gold would be good… ![]()
People complaining that in GSC there is more kanto Pokémon in johto than johto’s don’t have understood the fact that those games are not reboots but direct sequels.
The fact that the introduction is still made by prof. Oak instead of the main johto professor (Elm), the stating that “Pokémon are misterious creatures” and that the events of GSC happens 3 years after the ones from RBY should make everyone do the 2+2 thing and realize that:
If there is a professor and something misterious, there have to be a research on that thing.
And if 3 years have passed, that research had to move forward.
So it shouldn’t be a surprise to see johto Pokémon in kanto or a lot of kanto Pokémon in johto.
Johto Pokémon are just new Pokémon that have been discovered and identified.
They are not strichtly connected to the johto region.
And the older ones are just present in johto too because they were already known to exist.
The Pokémon world was seen as a whole back then.
Things are changed in 3 years and the whole collecting Pokémon data plot is tied to the concept of “time passes, research moves forward” not “new region, new Pokémons”.
Of course on a new game you expect new Pokémon, is the reason that keeps the brand going on to create new Pokémon. But new Pokémon are not connected on the main region on which the game takes place. At least not GSC.
Agree. And takes up space. Open them or sell them already lmao.
When I play a new Pokemon game, I am not playing for logic; I am playing for new Pokemon. The fact that you can’t catch Houndour, Larvitar, Misdreavus, Murkrow, Slugma and Sneasel (you can catch Sneasel earlier in Crystal) until you get to Kanto is absolutely asinine, especially when you take into consideration how exceedingly difficult (and RNG) it is to get elemental stones to evolve Pokemon like Growlithe, Vulpix, Weepinbell, Gloom, etc. in Johto.
Think about it: Pokemon introduced the Dark type in Gen 2 and added five new Dark-type Pokemon into the game. FOUR OUT OF THE FIVE cannot be caught until Kanto (three in G/S because Sneasel can be caught in Johto in Crystal).
G/S/C are my favorite games of all-time, but I just don’t see how anyone can argue that the haphazard placement of new Pokemon wasn’t a massive oversight on the part of Gamefreak.
I mostly agree. I think I would have preferred more new Pokémon to be accessible within Johto for the sole reason of more team options. I find myself pretty limited in any subsequent playthroughs when wanting to use a more diverse team. But I don’t think it was an oversight but an intentional choice by GameFreak. Perhaps it was to entice the player to keep playing and continue exploring Kanto to see what’s changed/what’s new.
you need to try pokemon ultra violet if you havent yet. I think you will like it
Since this only apply for specific Pokémon and is purely subjective, I agree with you on this part.
I wanted too a better distribution of dark and steel types and more stones (Crystal fixed the last one) but overall I can’t think different from my main post.
2 exceptions are not the rule
Not an unpop opinion but you should be able to send in two PSA 9 Legend pieces and get them into one slab at PSA. That would be so cool. Same thing with V Unions and stuff. As long as all pieces are the same grade.
Cards that were never intended for distribution or prize gifting hold no collecting appeal, and are essentially stolen product (looking at you test prints, and for position only).
I agree this, 60%
No collecting appeal to you or in general?
No collecting appeal to myself. I’m sure it is a sentiment that resonates with other collectors, though I’m not going to speak on their behalf.
All the more reason to play Stadium 2, unlock the 200% or 300% emulator and blast through Gold/Silver and breed all the Kanto-exclusive pokemon to trade to a new file in Crystal and play the game from the beginning with all the rare pokemon! All you have to do is beat every tournament in Stadium 2 and spend hours breeding optimized teams to do so…and even so, for some inexplicable reason Nintendo restricted the speed emulator for GSC to only actually work in GSC once you’ve beaten the Elite Four.
The hoops nintendo makes us jump through to streamline RBYGSC are ridiculous but they are doable if you’re a crazy person like me ![]()
pokemon artists get more attention because they work for pokemon than for their talent
Jamboree was better the less we knew.
Jamoreed ![]()
I will meet you half way: the dummy cards that are just sharpie on cardboard are really lame. It is not what people mean when they say “I wish we could see cards from Jamboree.” Seeing them barely constitutes a curiosity, let alone a payoff to one of vintage Pokémon’s most tantalizing mysteries.
If I wanted to see an idealistic fan recreation of something I’ll never get to personally see I’d watch James Cameron’s Academy Award winning film Titanic.
