The first time I was buying an HGSS card (I am not familiar with that era of cards at all), I thought that dark thing in the middle of the right-side border was a dent/crease  I mean it wasn’t too hard to figure out it was the card design, but it still looks a bit weird to me

I agree on some points, not a fan of the borders and the holo is definitely lackluster. Weirdly enough the normal cards have the biggest art box of any half art cards ever haha. I also don’t like Primes at all, feels like a missed opportunity, especially since Gen 2 is my favorite era of pkmn. Match and Sui featured a lot in this era and it just doesn’t impress me. Sadge

I definitely think that Kimura, Arita, Nishida and TOKIYA did all the good art in the whole HGSS block for real. I just scoured all the sets and it’s the only art that jumps out to me

I like hgss holos. Not primes really but almost all the holos are cheaper than dirt so yeah i guess the market disagrees

New hot take: Scratches on the slab are almost as bad as scratches on the card itself. They create the same visual distraction and appearance of imperfection, and many people don’t want to risk sending their valuable card to the grading company just to get a new slab, because there’s always a risk of losing the card in transit.

Treecko looks stupid, very much like a teenage Squidward from Spongebob Squarepants. Which is a shame, because its evolutions are pretty rad.

I just pretend like that nose doesn’t exist.

I kinda agree, but I think the main problem is that Treecko always appear standing on two legs. Very unnatural looking, it remind me of a malformed Yoshi.

Now you can’t unsee it

But look how AWESOME it is when depicted doing gecko stuff:

What’s wrong with looking like Squidward?

…Hello?

Haha. I don’t think this is too unpopular, but it’s certainly wrong! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
I actually like the tarnished look of the cards and the consistent art style of the trainers. BUT primes suck. yes. Legends… I’m not sure.

yu nagaba art style is boring. it was only cool the first time because it was so different.

Keep it coming, hopefully brings the future price down

I love HGSS holos. I think the reason why the market doesn’t value them as much is because this was where we were starting to get to the point where holos were meaning less and less as far as chase cards were concerned (even if LEGEND cards were astronomically stupid).

HGSS holos seem to have the biggest artbox holo area, they are awesome

Plus it was a major down point in the hobby. BUT at the same time, HGSS decks were the first gen of PTCGOnline. And the sets were not these astronomically huge lists.

Which reminds me of this unpopular thought:

If sets were smaller, like most of us would love to see again, we’d also have fewer full arts and amazing illus, so honestly, it’s self-defeating. So, if you value the art, and not merely collecting to check boxes, collectors should want bigger sets.

The new sliver borders on English are meh.

HGSS LEGEND cards are pretty cool. I don’t understand the hate and disinterest toward them.
