What are your unpopular opinions in pokemon?

If they weren’t gold stars you wouldn’t have these cards in your collection

holo rares still look better than exs, lv xs, primes etc. so I personally definitely would

I actually think these cards look really neat! Even without the little gold star, I like how Fukuda made the Pokémon extend outside the picture box. And with the sparkly holo pattern in the background it really makes the Pokemon pop.

I honestly don’t even really consider the Regis to be Pokemon. Awful design. They dont seem to fit the mold of what constitutes a Pokemon for me. Maybe that’s a hot take haha.

Now this is an unpopular opinion hehe. I respect it though

I would have liked the gold stars to be illustrated by someone other than Fukuda

That is something I have never considered, and I’d be super curious what they would look like with other illustrators. I do think their cohesiveness is a strength, which is lacking in the radiant Pokémon, so I’d still go with 1 illustrator. Who would be your pick?

Regirock is actually in my second favorite Gold Star artwork wise, after Vaporeon (which I guess is worthy of this thread, haha).

Gold stars in particular have subtle holo bleed around the text boxes like crystals do. They look much better in person. But they are not anything over the top or gimmicky which is something that cant be said for a lot of the chase cards in the tcg

Yeah, I mean I would say my favorite artist, Naoyo Kimura, but I don’t think her style lends itself to the high rarity, shiny pizzazz Pokémon cards that gold stars were.

It’s hard to say but maybe someone like Hajime Kusajima? I just think they should have had more creativity, especially in terms of their backgrounds for being such special cards.

I think the regis have particularly pleasing colors with the contrast between the background and the pokemon. They are certainly better than several other gold stars imo,.

On the contrary, I’m glad they were all done by Fukuda because I don’t like their style, so I have not much desire for any of the gold stars. I think besides the starters, Regis and Rayquaza, the rest are meh.

I’m glad that worked out for you haha. I only really like Latios, Rayquaza and metagross out of the bunch, even though the only one I’d like to collect is Latios. The rest can be for everyone else

Neo Shining cards> Gold Star cards

This statement is unforgivable. Unless you’re talking about Neo Revelation and not Neo Destiny.

Yep, straight to Wela. :fire:

To be fair, the only thing Gold Stars have going for them over the Destiny Shinings is the holofoil and lack of verbal title. Everything else; layout, borders, most of the illustrations, the cardboard stock, the Shinings are superior.

Like all hyper rares, they would’ve looked a lot better as regular holos.

Overall, I think Sugimori’s shinings are superior to Yoshida’s shinings. The one exception may be Shining Mewtwo.
