What are your unpopular opinions in pokemon?

May have been stated already, but I believe that the 1st edition base set Charizard is overhyped.

From an artwork perspective, I believe that Arita’s artwork for Skyridge Celebi and Theater VS Alto Mare’s Latios and Latias are far superior. No offense, but the base set Charizard is simply just Charizard in front of a plain background. Arita’s masterful artworks for Theater VS Alto Mare’s Latios and Latios are essentially two different perspectives from the same scene.

From a Pokemon perspective, I believe that Blaziken and Reshiram are cooler fire types.

From a collector’s/rarity perspective, I prefer card’s that could only be attained via participation is some event (i.e. Masaki promos, Trainer Certification, Play promos).

Though, I understand other’s opinions are just as valid mine and that Many believe that Charizard is the best Pokemon and that the base set Charizard has the best design.

I don’t believe you can “overhype” the most popular card in it’s 1st edition form, with the most nostalgia, that many of us who are on the “older” side dreamed for as kids. I highly doubt you’d find anyone arguing that base Charizard has the best artwork. That and that collectors’/rarity is better for competition cards are all “Popular Opinions”.

Miscut or off center cards are over rated. That is just bad quality control, not a good card.
Its amazing how in the sports card world, off center kills value. But in Pokémon, it is desired.

Its amazing how in the sports card world, off center kills value. But in Pokémon, it is desired.

Crimps, slightly miscut, or slightly off center cards? Sure. The severe cases are abominations and fun to look at IMO.

But yes, the Facebook group “Gotta Misprint 'Em All” is full of people willing to shell out $50-300 for the slightest “error”.

Base set holo rares should have had non-holo versions as well.

Big No. Jungle, Fossil and Rocket only had the non holos in the west cause WOTC were literally milking the set.

Also, Blaine’s Charizard is easily one of the worst, if not the worst WOTC Zard. Maybe the holo expedition one with the giraffe neck is worse, but they are close to each other

The Expedition Giraffe is easily the worst Zard art in the game, you should check the lack of taste xD.

Crystal Zard is overrated, as it is super bland, but in no way worse than Blaine’s or Expedition.

crystal zard is the last zard in wotc and a part of an extremely short lived secret rare sub collection and the ONLY flying type charizard we will likely ever get with all the fire emoji hype. Art is no more generic than every wotc charizard including base and blaines. The historical signifigance from it being the best card from the last wotc set (which is also extremely rare and expensive) makes me think it should go for more than it does. The worst aspect of that card is the fact that its easy to grade but thats a skyridge thing not just a charizard thing

The gradeable argument is pretty mute, imo.

I think that WotC had a better Charizard in both Base Set (overrated as is, still absolutely astonishing) and Dark Charizard (now that is personality). As for Japan only, Lance’s Charizard is criminally underrated
