What are your unpopular opinions in pokemon?

I love this Pumpkin thing!! It’s simply not true that pokemon gen 5 onwards suck. I barely know any of them after gen 3 (barely know gen 3) but going through bulbapedia and the cards this past year i’ve seen a bunch that look really cool and are conceptually really creative

Sun and moon era TCG > XY Era TCG.
I don’t get the love or hype the XY TCG sets get. Other than I guess Evolutions and Flashfire there isn’t really a lot of exciting cards.

If it weren’t for tag teams and I’d say shining legends, xy would 100% blow sun and moon out of the water imo. The rainbow rares and full arts from sun and moon are so boring and bleh. I’ll take an xy full art over a rainbow rare or sun and moon full art any day. Most of sun and moon feels really uninspired. They really ended it with a bang with the last few sets though to redeem the entire era.

XY’s full arts are very hit or miss to me. I’m going beyond just the “rare chase cards” though. Just the general art direction and art style of the XY era cards we saw just felt and looked very safe, plain, and “on model”.
Then look at Sun and Moon, even early on in Gordian’s Rising they had a lot of different artists and a lot better variety of artists and art styles. Cards felt just way more lively and interesting to look it. Just my take though.

Base Set 2 holofoils are more appealing than Base Set holofoils.

off topic but i love your avatar. Masago and his Alakazam illustration are some of my absolute favorites in the TCG

I hate that art. Probably my least favourite. Scary and gives me nightmares.

Hehe, I guess Masago would take that as a compliment

I actually quite like CGC 8.5s in preference to PSA 9s

this is what i came for

But in all honesty a strong CGC 8.5 to me with say 8.5 8.5 9 9 subgrades (or a similar combination) doesnt seem to be any worse than a lot of 9s but usually 50% of the price and even quite a big discount to a CGC 1 subgrade higher that got the 9.

I’m also mainly into ex era cards that are relatively scarce anyway so maybe thats why im being weird

I won’t fault someone for collecting in a fiscally responsible way. You’re someone who buys the card, not the grade, and I can appreciate that

I’ve been doing the same thing, the amount of wack company eseries 8.5s and 9s I have bought these past few months at 30%-40% value has been ridiculous. Yeah I do plan on crossing them at some point but a bird in the hand is worth it to me as well

Yeah fairly similar thinking to myself I don’t plan cross grading the CGC cards because i like the cases but i bought a SGC lot i definitely will. Over in the UK i have to be a bit careful as the 9s and 10s of some of these newer companies are very dubious!

I know what you mean, yeah Ive seen some bad sgc dsg and whatever else there is out there, but people act like you cant look at pics before buying. I bought a blastoise 1st base holo sgc 92 for pretty cheap recently and I have enough grading experience to know that its 100% crossable to BGS at the 8.5 equivalent. One nick on the back and one corner ding but besides that its fine.

People are so stubborn they’d let the 2nd best card from base go for like 65-75% value just cause the plastic is not the plastic they like. When it comes to expensive cards I always look for the wack companies to buy lol. Crossing is not that hard
