Haha I don’t know if I’d say that, but you’re totally right - there’s lots of ways for people to collect cards and enjoy the hobby, and whether it’s singles, binder collections, slabs, etc all are totally valid options and I don’t think any one is necessarily better than the other. They all have theirs pros and cons.
I wish people who played/collected Weiss Schwarz had that same mindset though lol. I’m subbed to a WS Facebook group and the WS subreddit, and if you even mention getting cards graded you basically get crucified for “ruining the game” because now “people who want to play with those cards in decks can’t” and “this isn’t Pokemon so stop grading cards” and “grading cards hurts the hobby”. Super toxic
I’m with you on the modern – Gen 4 is where I left the hobby in the early 2010s, and man, I don’t think there’s a single Pokemon since that I like the look of. I absolutely hate the art/design on current gen Pokemon.
Probably the Masago and Arita ones! I got Masago’s Alakazam and Tyranitar as well as his VS Blaine’s Typhlosion and his Neo Scizor, Kabutops, and Ho-Oh. And Arita’s e-series Hypno and Rhydon. some of my favorites in the entire TCG. A lot more in e-series that I love but not high on my priority right now
I just looked through all Pokemon since gen4 to try find something to argue with you about haha. You’re not too wrong, overall pretty damn poor I must say!.
I do think mimikyu is a cool concept though, and I can’t help but actually really like foongus haha. The other 400 Pokemon, I’ll give you…
As cool as it is to say “pokemon bad after I stopped playing”,
there are tons of cool new pokemon. Not as many good ones as before probably but still some beasts
That Pokemon (I have no idea what it’s called) looks neat! I just personally don’t like the design (or names) or the vast majority of Pokemon from Gen 5 onwards. I’ve tried playing the games and looking into these Pokemon (I want to like them), but for some reason, just can’t get on the modern Pokemon train. If anything, I’m more annoyed at myself vs. trying to cancel modern 'mons because I’m not a fan.
Tastes differ then I guess. I think the simplicity of the elements is what gets me about the design actually, achieving something unique (to me ) with very little.
As for modern stuff I like, Ill admit its not as large a list as earlier gens. (Id probably consider gen 5 as something besides modern tho)
ill give it a shot of cool pokemon from gen 6 on though just for the lols:
gen 6s
greninja
malamar line
skrelp line
all gen 6 fossils
trevanant
goomy line
yveltel
gen 7s
toxepex
mimikyu
araquanid
sallazle
all tapus
Ouu okay! I am a fan of Mimikyu Goomy and Snom as the cute modern mons. This is going to sound stupid, but I always thought Greninja was Gen 4 or 5 – I always thought he looked bad ass.
