I feel that. I have nowhere near that kind of inventory but i always put off listing stuff. My biggest fault (sometimes best feature) is not biting the bullet on certain items and screwing myself longer term
Every time I finish a significant goal or get really close, I trade all of the progress for a single valuable card. And then I never have the motivation to go and finish the set again because I feel like Iāve already done it.
So Iāve been thinking long and hard on this topic and finally came up with an answer for myself that Iām satisfied with. I think I mentioned it somewhere before, but I have a bad case of āgotta catch 'em allā syndrome. I like to collect stuff in sets, and it bothers me greatly when I have random straggler cards that donāt really fit anywhere or contribute to some bigger collecting goal. Once I get one of them, I gotta get all of them.
Case in point- a couple of months back, a friend of mine gave me his English copy of Ho-Oh LEGEND as a gift. The LEGEND cards werenāt on my radar at all prior to that, but once I had the Ho-Oh, it bothered me enough that I ended up going on eBay and buying the rest of the LEGEND cards within a month. That being said, the LEGEND cards ended up being some of my favorites in my collection, so I suppose it worked out.
Consequently, due to my dislike of random cards laying around, I also almost never buy sealed product. Iād view this as a fault cause with the way I buy singles, it almost feels like cheating to meet my goals with how easy it ends up being. In my eyes, the proper way to collect would be to rip open packs for what you need. Unfortunately, it just ends up being such an economically unsound choice that I canāt bring myself to do it the ālegitimateā way. I am trying my luck with the Generations set though (which has been pretty good to me thus far), so weāll see how that goes.
I hoard WAY too much. Iāve got a āyou never know how much this will be worth one dayā mentality that I just canāt shake.
That, and I constantly have like 1000 mini collecting goals going at once. Iām sure one day Iāll complete the Skyridge reverse holo set, right??
I donāt really care for psa 10s, sure Iāll buy it at the right price but I care far more about the front side of a card than the back and 8ās and 9ās are absolutely fine and a hell of a lot cheaper for me to get the things I personally want. Hell if a psa 7 is 50% less in $ than a psa 9 Iād even buy that as long as I had good pictures and could see that the cards appearance was still enjoyable
I have no interest in re-selling, I donāt go for completing sets, I just go for individual cards that I really love the art of regardless of set or value
The saddest thing in Pokemon to me is the lack of good haunter artwork on cards
An obsession with 10s. Sometimes I lose sight of how amazing it is to just have a card, Iām always worried about getting it in that perfect 10 that I canāt really be satisfied until I do. I enjoy 10s as theyāre a finality (literally canāt get a better copy of the card) but sometimes I care more about the grade than I do about the card.
I spend too much money. I suppose thatās self explanatory
I need to be better organized. I have a TON of ungradable cards that I donāt really want to sell, and theyāre basically just sleeved and stacked in one of my PSA card boxes. Iād love to be able to get nice sleeves for all of them and put them into a nice binder. Some of my complete sets would also benefit from nicer binders and sleeves.
