Hi, all! My name is Ben, and I live in the Midwest. I’ve seen threads and references to E4 for several years but I’ve just decided I wanted to join in the discussion here. There’s a ton of experience here which I’m excited to learn from. I am a typical mid-30s millenial who had cards as a kid, and “grew out of it” by maybe middle school during the ex era. I then derided Pokemon cards as childish and foolish things to collect for an adult, until 2022. This was the day I hung with my neighbor, watched a baseball game and had a few beers. He mentioned his girlfriend collected Pokemon, and he was getting into it as well. He showed me a japanese pichu promo he had just got for her as a present. This was a good moment for me. It planted a seed which would then bloom the following year.
After being exposed to vendor POV videos and checking out a few local shows. I’ve been collecting since 2023, and have had an absolute blast with it. I learned that this hobby, while not to be taken too seriously, is anything but foolish and is in fact one of the most fun and fulfilling pastimes I’ve partaken in. It’s also full of cool people.
I started with Gen 1+2 WOTC slabs, going for 1st edition as that’s what I remembered. As I learned more I’ve branched out into the different types of chases across vintage and mid era. I have dabbled in modern. I’ve also come to appreciate nice binder copies of cards as opposed to needing PSA 9/10 to enjoy them.
As I’ve learned more about Japanese exclusives, those are becoming a focus for me as well. Gold stars are my top chase at the moment. I’d like to have a complete binder set of english gold stars, which I’ve made a pretty good dent in. Enjoy a few photos of the binder!

Just joined. My name is shane. I got back into because my kids are into it. I started collecting in 96 threw out my old collection in highschool. Im working on a magmar masterset and its the only cards im buying.

Warm welcome to the forum @DilosDilixiane . Happy to have you here and great to hear that your kids are in the hobby which also pulled you back in. Magmar is a great Pokemon to collect as species.
We have a few threads where all species collectors discuss about the various aspects of focusing on one Pokemon. Hopefully you will find it useful.

Hi,
My name is nick and I finally decided to join. I collected the cards and played the games as a kid. I recently found what was left of my collection and it’s spurred me to dive back in and see what’s going on.
I’m looking for advice or grading and protective cases for theme decks.
My goal is to properly asses what I have, upgrade to the newest protective gear, grade what worth grading, and potentially add to it with unopened decks, packs and cards so I can one day share them with my kids. I focused on “vintage” cards and would like to complete” the Gym hero’s challenge set. I also would like to add a shining gyarados to my set because it looks cool.
