Long-time lurker, finally forced myself to make an account and actually interact with the community.
I’m a knowledge seeker, especially about my hobbies, and I owe this community so much for all the deep-dives and megathreads you’ve all made available to the world. Thank you!
As for me, I’m a lifelong Pokemon fan, since Pokemon Blue, and I got back into the TCG a year and a half ago after quitting way back in the e-Reader era. I’m a completionist to the core, so I have to be careful about what I start collecting. I currently collect Mawile, Chansey, and Tinkaton (all versions, plus any misprints I can get).
I look forward to meeting you all!
Welcome @Natron ! You are in the right place for seeking knowledge. It’s great to have you here and I’m looking forward to seeing your collection sometime.
Welcome into the light @Natron great to hear you. Looking forward to seeing your posts and interacting.
Welcome, @Natron ! Glad you stepped out of the lurker shadows, and I’m glad this community has provided knowledge and enlightenment. I think it’s a truly unique and critical place. Glad you’re part of it, and happy collecting!
PS, I also really love mahile’s design. Definitely an underrated mon.
Welcome to the fourum!
Hello all,
My name is Aparjit. I was informed about the existence of this forum after it was referenced on a YouTube video by okJLUV (a fellow Australian).
My origin story is that I am a ‘GenWunner’ who never fell out of love with the franchise.
However, until recently, I was always more focussed on the video games; while I purchased the Dratini/Machoke half-decks released alongside Base Set, I could never find anyone to play the game with me, so I lost interest in the TCG.
Fast forward to 2021, and I downloaded the GameBoy Pokemon TCG game on a whim, and enjoyed it immensely. I became hyper-fixated with the real life TCG aspect of the franchise and have never looked back.
I now play (somewhat) competively/actively IRL, so a lot of my spending on cards is for sealed product or singles whenever a new expansion set is released.
However, my nostalgia for the Ken Sugimori art, as well as the Gen 2 games, means I have a special place in my heart for vintage cards.
Outside of playing the TCG, I am mainly focussing on collecting Houndoom and Tyranitar cards (with a side of Mimikyu as well).
Given the limited availability of vintage cards (and the cost of those cards when available) where I live, I have found the discussions on this site regarding:
I also believe that they have helped me develop, what I hope, is a more rounded and compassionate understanding of this aspect of the buying/selling ecosystem.
I prefer lurking, but bit the bullet and registered for these forums with the idea of interacting with and learning from, what seems like, a very knowledgeable community.
Welcome @manny_kaltz89 , Aparjit ! Glad you decided to venture from the shadows! This is a great place to meet like minded collectors. The TCG was my introduction as well and I still do love to play and show kids how to play. Not much of a competitor though. I recently started playing TCG Live and find it fun. I hope that you enjoy your time here.
Welcome @manny_kaltz89 ! It’s great to see another Aussie here. Collecting can be expensive here, especially if you want to collect vintage English cards. Japanese cards are always a good option as postage from Japan is cheap. Looking forward to seeing your collection journey unfold.
I LOVE the above statement.
Regardless, WELCOME to the fourum, @manny_kaltz89 ! Glad you’re here and that you introduced yourself, and even still, it’s perfectly fine to keep lurking. I hope you continue tofind the community here, helpful, positive, thoughtful, and knowledgeable about the hobby.
Welcome @Natron and @manny_kaltz89! Glad to have you here and hoping to see more of you in the future!
Elite Fourum!
Welcome! We have a few passionate houndoom collectors here, feel free to ask any questions about cards or the forum itself!
Hi all, medium term lurker here who’s already gotten a ton of incredible info from the forum and I figured I might as well start participating.
My story is probably a common one - grew up with gens 1-3 (vivid memories of playing Ruby on GBA) as a kid and got back into collecting in the last year or so when I was looking for a new hobby. My collecting goals are a bit lofty, but I’ve been lucky to make some solid progress already. I’m trying to complete master sets of Base Set through Skyridge to recreate the childhood collection I think I had, plus vintage Japanese promos and a few of the special sets like VS and Web Series.
I’m a strict binder collector. I love flipping through pages of vintage cards. Makes the collection a bit more affordable too as a bonus.
I might get around to posting my collection one day once it’s more complete, but until then I’d love to get to know folks and learn all I can about those old eras of cards. One of my favorite parts of this has been learning about the cards I’m collecting and building my collection spreadsheet - lots of that data has come right from this site.
Welcome @large_wrench . Lots to learn here. Looking forward to hearing from you and more about your collection. Enjoy your time here. Interesting user name? Is there a story with it?
Welcome @large_wrench ! I’m ultimately working towards the same goal as you and I’m also a binder collector. It’s great to see a like minded individual join the forum. Looking forward to seeing how your collection unfolds.
Ha - it’s a reference to the name of team I was on. Nothing more interesting than that unfortunately.
