Welcome here @jcosmo
Hello!
Have lurked on here since just before last yearās wave, but have only recently started to join in.
Was hugely into Pokemon (figures, TV/film and GB games, and especially the TCG) as a kid (UK-based) from 1999 to around 2003, but then it tailed off.
Moving houses for the latest occasion earlier last year led me to finding my stored away binders of base set, jungle, fossil and team rocket sets, along with a few promos. Was pleasantly surprised to see that most of the binders are 1st Ed too. Not so pleased to see I clearly took my holos (1st Ed too? Cry face) out with me a little more and they had not made it into the same loft storage over the years and various house moves, and are therefore sadly gone for good.
But have been increasingly reviving my interest in the space thanks to my brother showing me the quite frankly amazing surge in popularity and (yes, investment angle) of it all. Iāve even been tempted this year to enter back into my first contemporary set for almost 20 years, with Evolving Skies and, of course, will be aiming to get as much of the Celebrations stuff as possible.
Looks a great forum and community - thanks in advance for having me!

Hello everyone! I finished cataloguing my card collection earlier this year (I mainly put it together in the late 2000s) and figured it was about time I signed up. I may have had an account back then with an old email address but Iām not entirely sure! Itās been so good to revisit the memories and keep up to date with the hobby again. An endless stream of YouTube videos from the likes of TCA Gaming, smpratte, Gem Mint Pokemon, Pokemon Classics etc. has made for wonderful viewing
I collect Japanese cards as Iāve always found them more visually appealing than English, and of course a much wider range of exclusive cards! Iāll never have a Pikachu Illustrator, Trophy Kangaskhan or Tropical Wind, but I think Iāve put together a decent collection. Iām hoping to get a lot of it graded one day, so am keeping a keen eye on developments with PSAā¦
Currently trying to put together a complete Japanese Eevee Heroes set. Feel free to wish me the luck (and money) needed for that

Hi,
Iām Harm, currently a more casual collector that chose an awful time to start collecting again because prices are through the roof but Iāve always been into the Pokemon TCG (used to have a ton of older era cards that have unfortunately been lost) and Iām interested in getting a bit more serious about the hobby by learning as much as I can about cards, the history of the TCG, etc.
Iām a big fan of Yuka Moriiās artworks and am hoping to collect all the cards sheās done. I hope one day she starts signing cards again so I can send some to her.
Also a big fan of Pichu and want to start a small-scale Pichu collection since Iām aware thereās a bunch of super rare cards I know Iāll never get my hands on.

Hey just joined idk why really , excuse the odd name choice. I just came up with it and thought it was funny. I assure you It has no actual relevanceā¦so I first started Collecting in 1999 until I got a first edition charizard jacked from me before I made it home with it ,lost interest in collecting for over 20 years because of that day , eventually let someone just have the binder I had full of holos and commons not thinking they would be so valuable one day , all of them were first edition. Fast forward 25 years, a friend got me into it again somehow, unfortunately ,and Iāve already wasted more money than I like to think about⦠so Iām pretty ignorant to most things PokĆ©mon related because I quit acknowledging PokĆ©monās existence completely for over 20 years ,I got out of it before the unlimited expansions of the base set even releasedā¦so I guess Iām here to learn a little more so I maybe will waste less money when Iām impulse buying cards thinking Iām investing but really Iām getting ripped off ,more realistically
Hi all!
My nameās Andy and Iām (obviously) new to the forum. Have only relatively recently got back into collecting after a long hiatus since childhood (32 years old now). I was hoping somebody please might be able to kindly direct me towards a good thread that details/assists in identifying fake or counterfeit cards being sold online; Iām looking to purchase some 1996 Carddass Bandai cards raw, but am worried (after having read some things lately) about being ripped off and sold a fake.
Any help or guidance would be much appreciated
Kind regards,
Andy.

Hi Iām Shane, got back into collecting last year using my childhood base set collection is a springboard. Working on collecting played binder sets for fun of WOTC era cards. Been listening to a bunch of collecting podcasts including PokemonRadarās, PokeNav and Geeked Out Collecting. Excited for Celebrations and enjoying learning the history of the hobby!
Hi Itā your favourite unpopular pokemon trainer here, James! I have watched smprattes videos for a while but decided to finally join now.
I collect most types of cards. Alternate arts, commons, promos, old and new, you name it and I probably have an example of it in my binders. English is my favourite because itās easier to access but If there are Japanese only cards I like I make a note to get them.
Looking forward to meeting you all. I will have my main forum post in my signature which I will update frequently on my acquisitions.

Welcome Andy. For 1996 and 1997 you can just go off the set lists, and buy cards that match those correctly. Not saying someone couldnāt potentially create good looking fakes of those cards, but as of yet I havenāt personally seen any out there.
Fakes are usually either just bogus cards that arenāt on any set list so are easy to avoid, or are the ones that PSA and BGS in their negligence have fallen for themselves; which is the cards that are usually 1998/99 carddass animation cards with a bogus holo sticker over the front. The scam is about getting PSA to find a spot in the registry for the card, by using the back of the card and its branding as a reference. Like one I saw in a PSA slab sell for over $1K on ebay recently. Apparently they donāt always look at the cards theyāre supposed to be grading they just look at the back and assume the front is real even though pidgey and ash are on the back and charizard is on the front; they just labeled it as the same set number as the ash and pidgey card smh.
You can see examples of fakes in the thread link below.
