Glad to hear it. Seems like most people hating on any of the 3 original sets didn’t even grow up with, or engage in that era and came into Pokémon during Gen 3/4.
Seeing this much Legendary Collection slander fills me with so much early 2000s nostalgia when all the kids thought the Reverse Holo “Fireworks” pattern was akin to those fake peelable sticker cards you’d find at Chinese malls.

Base Set II should be excluded from consideration. Also, I don’t remember as a kid thinking that Gym Heroes and Gym Challenge is recycled Sugimori art. I remember seeing Blaine’s Moltres(Illustrated by Leonardo da Vinci) and a Mewtwo owned by Team Rocket.

This is true, it belongs in the friendzone. LC is the worst (probably, I can’t decide.) I remember the first time I saw Exeggutor from Gym Heroes, I was transfixed.

I never realized the flack against the gym sets as they are probably my favourite set along side the rocket set.
My lest favourites would be base 2 and LC
Some of the gym arts are among my all time fav cards such as Misty’s Gary and Blaine’s Arcanine
