USPS says I signed when I didn't - weird signiture for proof

USPS says i signed for a package when i didn’t. I already filed a request for refund on ebay. what else should i do?
this was the signature that was provided as proof of delivery:

which is certainly not my name. it says covid 19 something.
I tried to call but couldn’t get through to anyone. I also looked a filing a case but it seems like that’s something the seller does.

this was the seller response: I’d suggest checking with your neighbors or other members of your household to see if maybe it was delivered to them by mistake. Unfortunately there’s nothing I can do to help you, once we ship it out it’s out of our hands. You can contact ebay and usps and see if they can help. I know ebay won’t refund you as long as it was delivered to the correct address regardless of who signed for it so I think your only option is to somehow prove usps delivered it to someone else. Sorry I could not be more help.

All my packages that required signing are usually just dropped off at my door instead. Found out its because of covid.

This happened to me a couple months ago but with FedEx. They were delivering a $5,000+ package from PWCC and the driver delivered it to the wrong address. FedEx didn’t do anything to help and PWCC wouldn’t even help me look up the signature. It was a cluster fuck. I suspect they didn’t bother with signature either because covid.

oh i understand well shit… It’s not in my mailbox so I’m really confused where it is. :slightly_frowning_face:

Fedex and USPS I’ve had both just sign “COVID” now

well i checked tracking and it does say it was given to a person… I’m going to try and call on monday.

In Italy, and probably other countries in Europe, they don’t make you sign anymore because of the restrictions in place due to the virus. This happens with both the mailman or the courier (they usually call/ring your doorbell and leave the package after letting you know they are at your doorstep)

This is common practice now, parcel servuces will just sign “COVID 19”, “CORONA” or something similar to at least have something on record instead of an empty signature field.

This happened to me as well - in December I asked for help with a preorder from July I was still waiting for, store support sent me proof of delivery for the package as “delivered on Oct. 29, signed (by my last name)”. The signature was just some weird doodle, no card in my mailbox, no package on my doorstep. Nothing I can do, money lost because “recipient signed for it”.

damn looks like im going to be out of luck. still going to try everything tho. otherwise 1200 down the drain.

This happens so often. I find it outrageous that shipping companies still charge the premium for a signature when they rarely even provide the service during covid.

the weird thing that someone pointed out on discord is that my name is partially written really sloppily below “covid19”. So now I’m considering theft. I’m not sure why a post office worker would write my name.

I’ve had a whole mixture of things (mainly because I have like four different mail carriers who work my route):

a.) physically signing for the package (this is the least common these days);
b.) the postal worker bringing the package to my door and handing it to me without me signing;
c.) the postal worker just placing the package inside the mailbox without asking for any sort of signature;
d.) the postal worker writing a slip of paper and putting it inside my mailbox asking me to come pick the package up at the post office

I also had one isolated incident where tracking stopped after the package reached one of my two local post offices. It didn’t even say “waiting for pickup.” I called the post office and it turned out it was waiting for me there. Would have been nice to have known that without me having to call and ask.

awesome thanks for the info. gives me some hope.

Yea my regular mail person brings it to my door if it needs a signature. Once you open the door they walk away and say they signed for it due to Covid.

Also, the seller is correct if it shows delivered it is out of their hands unfortunately because that was a mistake by the carrier.

Do they all ring your doorbells?
