I think that New Pokemon Snap did a really good job at giving personality to a lot of pokemon you just dont really think about.

Aurorus is a good example of a Pokémon who was hurt by their in-game practicality. No matter how cool a Pokémon looks, it is difficult to overcome being unusable in-game. Bad typing, bad stats, bad moveset, it was very sad. Aurorus is actually exactly the kind of vibe I like my Pokémon to have. I think this is a very classic looking creature. But you can’t develop a relationship with a Pokémon that’s not fun to use.

On the topic of fossils, Carracosta is another one I really like that suffers a similar fate. It only has 4 cards and none of them are particularly good. I guess this one is the coolest one but there’s not much to choose from. But I like the look of this Pokémon a lot.

Archen and Archeops that were released simultaneously with Tirtouga and Carracosta only have three and four cards respectively as well:

Aggron also seems pretty unloved imo. I personally see its evolution line and Tyranitar’s in a similar light, but I know loads of Tyranitar collectors, yet not a single one for Aggron:

I also have yet to see a Seviper collector besides myself, even though it’s undoubtedly the best snake Pokémon there is (I’m not biased).

I could probably name hundreds of Pokémon here tbh. Just to name a few unpopular ones I personally really like of the first four gens: Kingler; Sharpedo; Loudred; Mawile; Tropius; Metagross; Lopunny; Skorupi; Cresselia.

I like Aurorus. Unpopular Pokemon imo is Mr.Mime, and I’m glad it’s that way. Wished it was never designed. I hate it, it and it’s evolution chain. I hate Mr.Rime even more. I would catch one just to torture it till it dies and then move to the next catch. Should’t exist.

The lack of Haxorus cards is insulting.

Everyone, please look at Haxorus:

He is a dragon with armor? And axes coming out of his face?? He is baddass???

And look at his shiny form! Like 10/10 shiny, amazing.

A perfect mon.

And despite this, there has been never been an Ultra Rare Haxorus?

Pokemon gave Wishiwashi’s Solo Form an Ultra Rare before Haxorus? Excuse me?

Haxorus only has 7 cards, an insult to a great Pokemon.

Snubbull will always have a special place in my heart. I remember it being one of the very first Gen 2 Pokemon introduced along with Marill and Donphan. While everyone was talking about “Pikablue,” Snubbull was actually the Pokemon that caught my attention.

Easily one of my favorite Pokemon of all-time in terms of design, and when Fairy-type was introduced in Gen 6, its in-game utility increased exponentially. Granbull is actually a pretty destructive force in some competitive formats.

@jawsh98: I actually like Aurorus a lot, too. Its horrible typing just makes it almost impossible to use in-game, though.

They were introduced in gen 3 but could only be encountered at the summit of mt. pyre with a 2% encounter rate and no trainer in-game had one, so most people never saw one in gen 3, they got a baby evo in gen 4 “chingling” which no one cares about either. Went over 8 years without a new card (supreme victors - crimson invasion) and in crimson invasion they got downgraded from their usual rare to being a common.

Awesome thread! To be honest, I feel like a lot of my favorite Pokemon are some of the most unloved: Lanturn, Girafarig, Masquerain, Golduck, Sandslash, Porygon2, Beedrill…the list goes on. But, the REAL crime is the injustice that has been served to Kingler, especially in the TCG. Per Bulbapedia, “Kingler has been featured on 9 different cards since it debuted in the Fossil expansion of the Pokémon Trading Card Game.” Like wtf is that about? This Pokemon has been around for 25 years. Kingler is not only a seriously cool design, it’s also a fairly decent mon in the games with a respectable stat total. Friggin’ Electrode, one of the worst designs in all of Pokemon, has over 30 cards…I don’t understand and can’t make sense of this, other than Kingler must REALLY not be popular. I mean, luckily, Kingler has some cool artworks that have been released, but still definitely seems unloved.
