Unlistedleaf good or bad for long term community?

@pokemontrader Those are some of my sentiments as well. The amount of inaccuracies and the promotion of the fake and/or “custom” cards is a huge detracting element to the show for me. I’ve only watched a few videos, however, so I don’t know how well the rest of his content is made.

Leon keeps the same inordinate amount of energy through all his videos as unlisted leaf, but I imagine it’s necessary to keep the younger audience’s attention. It’s clearly not geared for older fans like me who can sit through an hour or so long baseball or football documentary and enjoy it.

By and large I think having unlisted leaf in the hobby is a positive thing… But the fake & custom card garbage has got to go.

@pierce that’s sad to hear. I collected some Alpha/Beta probably 20 years ago, but hearing about whats going on now makes me glad to have Pokemon. Back when Magic was synonymous with DnD were the golden days. Far too financially driven now.

The day politics gets into pokemon is the day I burn all of my cards and 3DS

It’s good for my net worth.

Not even a joke, it’s people like Leonhart and Unlistedleaf who make content which is easily palatable for the lowest common denominator that gets people buying and talking about old product which most serious collectors already own.

This is the objective truth: It helps Pokemon’s bottom line. It helps investor’s bottom line. It helps fb/instagram shills who take advantage of naive new collectors bottom line.

If you think it cheapens the hobby, dumbs it down, etc. then you need to re-evaluate if you actually enjoy Pokemon for what it is or if you take it too seriously and see your knowledge and experience as something which makes you superior over casual collectors.

There’s a large voice in the hobby at every level of people complaining about people like this and the mature response to a lot of the complaining is that they should make their own content if they think they can do it better.

Anyone or anything that gets kids interested in collecting is good for the long term prosperity of the hobby. Even if he spreads misinformation, everyone who ends up becoming serious will learn quickly that you shouldn’t go to unlistedleaf for accurate information.

Lol but every video, I think you mentioned about taking a dirt nap lol. Its okay, I know your not old, we only get grey hair due to outside factors such as, wives/significant others .

He is the only content creator I watched casually from 2012-2016 when I got back into the hobby. I like to think that his channel kept the flame alive in me for Pokemon. His videos have been almost unwatchable to me recently, however.

Bingo;)

He’s not really into it these days and he doesn’t hide it well. His knowledge is lacking for someone who has been around for this long, and it is annoying when he tells obvious lies and makes stuff up. Not sure if that’s overall bad or not. The promotion of counterfeits and fakes is inexcusable though.

I totally agree with you. UnlistedLeaf’s content is probably good entertainment for children and it promotes our hobby overall, but there is a lot of misinformation and stuff made up from his mind which I think is crazy for someone who’s been opening cards on YouTube for years now. I feel like he doesn’t have real love for the hobby unfortunately. I don’t see real passion in him.

I recently watched him going to Pokemon Center and hobby stores in Japan, while that might be good content to have what bothers me is that he just goes buying random stuff carelessly without any emotion… I honestly feel like lately he is forcing himself to continue doing Pokemon on YouTube. It’s easy to see through him, unfortunately.

He’s just doing it for the paycheck. Last I looked at his stats, his channel is dying. Leonhart should pass him up once more people catch on to the act. Good riddance!

I’m going to have to disagree that this really happens, especially on the scale you are claiming. Every serious collector has probably overpaid for an item at one point. I know I have.

I’m supportive of pokemon youtubers regardless of whether or not they’re serious collectors. they can be sensational at times but I believe it’s good for the hobby. Unlisted leaf does have some awful videos basically promoting fake cards that I disagree with though.

Like anything else, redundancy can lead to boredom. He couldn’t stop his channel even if he wanted to any more because he’s used to the income and lifestyle associated with his subscribership/content pushed out. I’m sure some stuff he still finds exciting, but a lot of it is just about churning content and doing the same shit he’s done for years and years already. Some people are able to hide that better than others. I doubt he fully lost interest in pokemon though, but whos to say he didnt lose interest in his for-children format he’s stuck in?

Where’d you pull that one from…

I do wish he would put a band aid over his broken thumb nail haha. :joy:

I overpaid for a Forbidden Light Booster Box when I first started collecting again. Didn’t drive me away, it was a $30 lesson lol

I do have to wonder… we criticize Leon and Unlistedleaf quite a bit on these forums. I do like Leon a lot more because I think he has more accurate info generally, but do either of these guys have accounts here? I find it hard to believe that they do not given this is the “go to” place for all things TCG conversations. Almost expected from unlisted leaf because he knows so little sometimes about anything vintage cards I guess, but how can they not? Big fans/collectors almost have to have an account here unless they are hiding their identity…
