Troll and Toad Giving up on Pokemon?

If you read my story on Troll and Toad not paying checks anymore, the conclusion to that story was I finally got paid in early January 2025 for an August 2024 buylist order, although it took a BBB case to make them do something.

I logged on today to see any buylist prices shifting, and noticed Troll and Toad took down all buylist options. There is no bulk, there are no single cards that you can sell to them.

Makes me wonder if Troll and Toad is being sold off to another company, or if they are struggling financially. The discount codes TCA5 were no longer working last fall. As a wise person @wisewailmer pointed out, they offer something like $32 trade in store credit for a card they sell for $33. So if you used a 5% off discount, they already lost money and also has to pay for shipping and employees. How does a business make any money doing things like that?

I noticed the buylist was down yesterday too. Its something I have never seen in 6-7 years of very frequent selling to them. I didnt know what to make of it and I really hope its being revamped, not shut down for good.

Troll and Toad simply failed to innovate and update and keep up. I remember buying magic from them when I was still a wee lad, and nothing changed in almost 20 years it seems. This is from the end of a buyer. I’m not surprised they are floundering and this seems like they are probably just going to shut down. If you are downsizing and not taking in new inventory during a time when its extremely easy to make profits in cards, then you are working to close or sell off. that is the only conclusion I can come to. I’m not sure how I feel about this. I have no love for troll and toad, but I fear that something truly awful fills their void or buys them up.

Bulk V cards are about to crash on tcgplayer without a TnT buylist.

It was a collection funding hack for years. When bulk Charizard was $3 and you can find on tcgplayer for under $2 shipped. Or buying bulk V cards for 15 cents and selling 1000s to TnT for 35 cents.

There have been rumors of TT getting new management. So its probably unlikely that they will just can the whole buylist program, but its also unlikely the buylist will remain as good as it is/was

another era ends today fellas, pour one out. They really were a game changer

for better or worse, they were real OGs. They at least brought some stability to the market and were a source of cards for players for decades.

I noticed that it was gone this morning. Have a few orders on the way to them already so we will see. As someone who has been using their buylist to move yugioh into pokemon I have been checking their stock multiple times a day and their inventory turnover on SWSH and SV cards is insane. Still don’t know how they are making money with everything. I also noticed that they have been listing items sneakily under a different Troll and Toad label that makes those items ineligible for discount codes.

Been using the buylist for years. It was the only consistent way to move low end stuff for a decent price. I sure hope it gets revamped for the better but we will see.

Side note: I wonder if this has anything to do with the INSANE amount of people in the market “BuYiNg FoR 8o%” . I doubt it but honestly… maybe…

The stuff I would send to TnT wouldn’t have been bought by those people buying at 80%. Most of the time I see that % it’s graded cards, higher end (>$30) singles, and anything sealed

T&T really was the garbage collector for years. We thank them for the service!

turning crap into alt arts will be missed

My favorite TnT story was a few years ago I was getting all the ex era codes in the bottom left of the card, so I just mass ordered like 12 of each Eevee, all they had in stock, for like $1 each or something. I crashed their calculator because after I did a “buyout” they thought it was in such high demand, they were offering $3 each on their buylist. So I was able to go through my order, grab the codes I needed, and sell them back the scraps for more.

@gottaketchumall
Dan what publicly shareable info do you know on the business status of TnT?
They stopped the 5% codes, their buylist just went completely away, and their inventory is out of stock on most popular cards. The are taking almost a half a year to pay on the buylist orders that were sent in 6 months ago

It seems like the doors are closing.

I think the inventory being out of stock has more to do with what I have previously said and the state of the current market in the sense that they can’t keep anything in stock for long instead of jumping to the conclusion that they are going out of business.

Ah, I guess it seems like I have drawn that conclusion. I was more posing the question with everything we know, not trying to imply that they are going out of business. Forgot to mention their customer service team is down to 1 individual person. Just another thing to add to the list of evidence that there could be a problem brewing

This is news to me I have no outsider let alone insider info tbh. They still have a decent stack of my stuff, high 5 figures and they’ve been slower to pay it out lately. Hope I dont get wrecked on that.

I’m waiting for the creator codes to start to work again before I check out some stuff of yours

That moment when I’ve never used the buylist. :skull:

Honestly the market is so colorless and competitive it’s gotta be tough to maintain.
