Ripped off by Troll and Toad?

Last month I purchased an E3 Pikachu from Troll and Toad for $8 + shipping. As soon as I placed the order I noticed that they raised the price on the remaining stock from $8 to $129.

Fast forward a few weeks and the order arrives, but its just a basic Pikachu yellow cheek Pikachu. No E3 stamp.

I contact customer support and they offer to send out a replacement. Great! The next day support contacts me and says they have no stock, so they are just going to refund me.I check the website and the card is still in stock and still at $129.
Many emails later T&T are unwilling to send me a replacement while stock is still sitting on their website.
Is this a common occurrence? I feel like they knowingly shipped me the wrong card so that they wouldn’t lose out on a higher value item.
Please share your T&T thoughts and experiences.

I don’t really know how this happened, but I bought a few cards from them recently, no import fees.

A couple of days ago, I get a fee to pay card with a fee of Ā£110, seems quite high as it’s only 20% of card value usually. I open it, it’s the Snorlax Call of Legends Staff card that I ordered - for Ā£200. How on Earth the fees got so high is beyond me - they must of high declared it and punked me lol.

It happens all the time. Just yesterday I bought off of a seller on eBay and he actually even marked it shipped. But later he realized the prices, sent me some BS and then started sending me abusive messages (not even joking) when I asked for a quick refund if he wasn’t sending me the card. And now it’s listed for a higher price. T&T or eBay, you have to deal with stuff like that. One of the reasons I don’t mind paying a little extra and dealing with some upfront people

I will say years ago I bought a championship arena from them for 150$ and let another member here know about it who also purchased one. We both received it, and then they jacked up the price afterward so at least back then they honored prices they hadn’t yet updated

no clue in the current market though

T&T can do a great job of listing the variants of cards correctly, but it has always been 50/50 for me if they send me the right card. With that being said, it sounds like they messed up and don’t want to admit it

I’ve ordered so many cards from Troll & Toad it’s kind of insane at this point (I have a lot of store credit…). Troll & Toad has plenty of faults, but I’ve honestly never experienced anything like this. Occasionally they’ll send me an email that an item in an order I placed was out of stock. But I assume that these are honest inventory mistakes and have no reason to believe otherwise.

In your case (to make sure I understand): you ordered item A, they sent you item B. They refund you instead of sending you item A because they were ā€˜out of stock.’ But they have item A in stock. If this is what happened, then I’m surprised. But yeah, that definitely isn’t good business practice lol.

I have had my latest order get charged a import fee too. Just a FYI.

They did the same to me with a holofoil promo magikarp. They just send me the regular version instead. I’m 100% sure they did it on purpose, cos it was cheap when I bought it and then the stock price increased

They sent me a Base Unlimited Charmander instead of 1st edition. I didn’t have a problem with the refund, but I had to pay double the price to find another one.

That is exactly what happened.

Hmm. Yeah, that’s pretty shitty then lol. I feel like there has to be some sort of misunderstanding though (likely on their end) because it’s so blatantly sketchy that I doubt a company as established as they are would do it. But maybe I’m wrong…I’ve heard plenty of bad things about them. I just personally haven’t experienced any of that yet lol.

Initially they asked if I wanted a refund or a replacement. I replied right away asking for the replacement, then the next day they issued a refund without contacting me first. I replied again stating I wanted a replacement, and they said they wouldn’t be offering a replacement as they were out of stock and they had already refunded me. I sent them a link of the T&T page showing they had stock and they just kept saying they were out of stock and had already refunded me.
extremely frustrating but not out of line with everything i have heard about them.

Ohhhhh…I think I see what the issue is. Was the one you originally purchased from Troll & Toad themselves or from an EVO seller? Because the only ones they have in stock are from EVO sellers. So that’s why they can’t replace yours – the ones they have in stock technically belong to other sellers. But the one you originally purchased (I’m assuming) was not from one of the EVO sellers who have stock right now.

If this is the case, then I can still understand why you’re frustrated, but I don’t think they’ve necessarily done anything wrong. Still, they should just purchase one of the EVO ones and send it to you because that’s what you originally bought. So they didn’t handle this the best way, but they didn’t really ā€˜rip you off.’

I purchased from an evo seller that still has stock.

When i originally purchased it the seller had two in stock for $8. Immediately after purchasing they raised the price to over $100.IMO I was sent the wrong card on purpose because they had the card set at the pre COVID prices.

Hmm. Odd. Still, Troll and Toad doesn’t set the prices that EVO sellers charge. EVO sellers can charge whatever they want. So the EVO seller is the one who made the pricing mistake. Still, Troll and Toad should force the seller to honor the mistake and send you the copy that they have in stock. Weird situation.
