The insanity of all of this!!! THE INSANITY!!! Yet we are all so overjoyed. This is amazing. 200k for a box and yet you can easily turn a profit. Let us all who have zards be glad we did when we could. RIP 1st ed purchases…
This is funny. I was talking to Logan earlier today. He told me he had a supernatural feeling that two CHARIZARDS would be pulled. I told him that oddly, right when I woke up I had the exact same feeling. What does it mean? Probably nothing lol. But who knows;)
It’s funny joking about buying 1st edition base before this video or RIP, but then I realize just how many people are going to watch this and how true that sentiment just might be. The promotional video got 5 million views.
If 5 million people watch this, even if just .1% of viewers decide to start collecting 1st edition base after this that’s 5000 new 1st edition base collectors. There’s not enough supply for that currently.
It’s interesting to see how much 1st Edition Base has increased recently and the fact that Jungle and Fossil 1st Edition haven’t moved at all. I would’ve expected some of these outside investors/collectors to go after those sets, too? It’s just crazy to see Base Set prices like quadruple while literally everything else is the same price as in June.
I wonder if the Base Set prices reach a point to where there’s spillover demand into Jungle/Fossil from people who are priced out of Base.
Fossil has started to move, it’s ~12k now. Once jungle starts it’ll probably hit $20k very quickly. What I’m interested in is how high base set will go.
I think there will be some increased demand, but more slowly. The unique thing with base is if you want to collect Pokémon cards, chances are that’s your first goal. Not for everyone, but for a majority. Tack on FOMO and that’s why we see the meteoric rise.
Then after base you move onto either what is most nostalgic for you, what you like the most, or what you think is the best place for your money. That might be Jungle, but it might be gold stars or EX era. No other set congregates collectors like 1st edition base. Whereas other sets filter out collectors by age, interest, rarity-desire, income level etc.
