Three highest priced sets in 2030?

About half a year ago (before the recent boom) we had a discussion about what set would be priced the highest in a few years.

It would be interesting to see what people think about this now, and what take new people on this forum have on this.

The discussion is about the sealed price of a boosterbox for modern sets (Sun & Moon onwards), only boosterbox sets count and Team Up is excluded (because, well, it wins). An explanation is always welcome.

1; Celestial Storm (a Rayquaza set that seems very underprinted. It is actually more expensive than Evolving Skies.)
2; Evolging Skies (the best modern set, but printed high)
3; Unified Minds/Cosmic Eclipse/Unbroken bonds (this one was difficult. I would give the edge to Unified minds).

  1. Evolving Skies
  2. Team Up
  3. Cosmic Eclipse or maybe Fusion Strike

reasoning: 5 years is a long time from now. Team Up is too top heavy to be No.1. Cosmic Eclipse has CHR(style) cards which plays well into future character art type sets, but could be over taken by fusion strike which has the gengar (one of the trendiest SwSh special arts) and espeon (pairs with EVS’s eevees

I like your picks. Team Up was excluded though.

without team up, i’d probably say

  1. EVS
  2. Fusion
  3. Cosmic

in general, i just think after 5 years, swsh sets will overtake sm sets with team up being the only one that can compete. i could see unified minds and unbroken bonds being in the top 10, but i think out of all of those, cosmic eclipse will be the highest (behind team up)

the reason i feel this way is based on how fun a set is to open and the chase(s). nothing compares to the rush of EVS in english modern with so many possible hits. With cosmic, you at least have the character arts which will feel increasingly exciting as time goes on and the price of packs increases. This will lead to more of these sets being opened than sets that are less exciting.

This is also why i think SwSh will overtake SM. in particular, i think year 3 of SwSh has the most potential to go crazy as the years go on thanks to the trainer gallery juicing the hit rate of packs.

Rebel clash to the moon :rocket:, invest in it trust me bro :fire:

What I actually think will happen

  1. Evolving skies
  2. Unbroken bonds
  3. Palden Fates (I had to add a SV set and this one has cHArIZaRD, and people always like charizard, other sets might get reprinted into the ground to help manage supply other sets have had this happen and set prices drop look at the covid boom for an example of this. Seeing as this set doesn’t have a ton of attention right now so I don’t think it will get many reprints, I honestly could care less about the market in 5 years though because I already have most of what I want badly from these eras and don’t care about reselling so could matter less to me but this is what I think will happen)

Where was this fusion love even last year? Top 3 set of a decade??

Are you from the future? How is it in 2030? Did the Maple Leafs ever win more than a single playoff set??? :open_mouth:

i pick it because i understand that the market has to have some element of stupidity to it and it being the most bloated set of all time (at the time of release), a huge scandal re: hits being supposedly taken out, and one of the biggest swsh special arts feels like a perfect recipe for it rising above most stupidly

Well, it was short-printed (I wonder why), so who knows? Just kidding.

tbf i don’t think it’s unrealistic for it to be the biggest set from year 1 if it isn’t already

Yeah, that or the Base Set. The last sets that were (by modern standards) printed less. When it comes to sealed items (especially boosterboxes), the longer time goes by, the less the actual cards inside matter.

  1. Evolving Skies
  2. Lost Origin/Loss Abyss
  3. 151 (English)

I really feel like people are underestimating 151 on the English side, the print run seemed unusually tight to me compared to Japanese (can’t prove this, just feels that way). The fact it had no real/normal booster boxes seems to be a big factor, and it has a lot of nice cards for Gen 1 fans.

Also, I feel Giratina V in Lost Origin is a really good card that seems like it will continue to go much higher over time, which will drive this set higher.

Interesting take. I think 151 was definitely not printed to demand, like these new sets probably will.

Evolving Skies is interesting as well. Although it is by far the most popular set, it has recently stagnated (kind off).
