I noticed that BGS keep miss labeling thin stamps as thick stamps and example of this is both bgs 8.5 1st ed zards currently in aution are both thin stamps but have been labbelled as thick, its a litle worrying professional companies are getting this wrong lol
@rbear20, BGS could get it right, but I honestly do not think they are educated on it or simply do not care. I bet the grader thinks it has to do with how dark or thick the black part of the stamp is, which was my original misconception as well.
I’m interested to see how the BGS 8.5 fan club porygon does. AT the start of the auction, the first PSA 9 in forever showed up at a reasonable price and I snagged it for 1600 before taxes. I think this card and the eevee are due to rise in value.
They label every 1st ED base card as thick stamp as far as I know, PSA and BGS are both way behind the 8 ball when it comes to accuracy and documentation. CGC is the trend setter at the moment.
This was in todays PWCC marketing email, isn’t this that mislabeled card? Someone should tell Brent that this isn’t worth spotlighting or anywhere near that price if so.
I wish these cards actually were differentiable because it would be another super cool rare option, but alas…
You’re right, this should certainly not be advertised as something exceptional, especially with a price tag higher than recent #1 Pikachu Trophy sales.
It definitely shouldn’t have been in the spotlight, but FWIW Vault prices are controlled by the owner of the card - this is the owner telling PWCC to list it for $199,800 rather than PWCC saying it’s worth that; although it definitely comes across as though PWCC are endorsing that price tag.
Edit: I realised I haven’t sold my PSA 8 copy on yet, so I’ve emailed PWCC including a picture of my copy of the same correctly-labelled card for comparison. I guess I’ll share it here as well:
What’s going on with these BGS 9s (Thick Stamps)? Is it because they are “strong” and can cross over to PSA as 9s? Because as far as I’ve been told or seen or read from the plethora of information that has been shared here on this board, it is safe to say they are PSA 8s.
Both those auctions which seem to have plateaued at the 24-25.5k range (USD) yet, I see there’s a BIN FS (Canadian) for 25k CAD listed (which is about 18.5k USD) for a PSA 8 thick stamp right now.
Can someone shed some light on this for me please. I ask, because I am considering buying a BGS 9 from someone, but with PSA grading MUCH stricter than they used to or so it seems, I wouldn’t expect anything higher than a PSA 8 when I attempt a crossover in the event I buy the BGS 9. Now these auctions are messing up my negotiation lol. Thank you.
They’re still graded 9 from a reputable grading company & the next best thing to a PSA 9. People right now are offering $30k+ for a PSA 9 and getting no bites. So it’s no surprise these BGS copies are reaching these prices. Wouldn’t say they have no chance of crossing either, I’ve seen worse in PSA 9 cases, with 4xxx certs.
The point is that PWCC doesn’t change the cards name, pwcc believes in PSA evaluation If PSA doesn’t say that it’s wrong, PWCC considers it as real/true.PWCC doesn’t take any evaluations/grading risks…
PWCC is an auction house; they are not a fact checking authority nor are they an appraiser.
Here is a “Raichu” I picked up from a PWCC auction early last year which I’ve since had corrected by PSA:
This shows that 1) PSA make glaring mistakes, and 2) PWCC are happy to list these regardless.
PSA is in the wrong for applying an incorrect label and the owner of the card is in the wrong for attempting to sell it on knowing full well that it is mislabelled.
Totally get it! I just thought the consensus was the market price of a BGS 9 (anything other than a 9.5 and higher), would be the price of a PSA 8. And in this case the PSA 8 is at under 20k USD, so why are these BGS 9s being bid up so high. There’s the obvious new theory that’s been flying around where people just accuse new entrants to the market of being uneducated on the matters or less informed, which is totally fine and to each their own respect of paying whatever they feel like paying for something they want, I’m just genuinely wondering why
IF the assumption is a BGS 9, has more chances to cross to a PSA 8, thus people paying or having always paid PSA 8 prices, why would anyone buy the PWCC ones that hit 27.5+ and not just buy out / offer the PSA 9 that’s there for 18.5. If we were to discuss a simple “find value” or eBay “deal” type of thing.
