If you can find a well centered one the backs are notoriously well printed. Riddled with printlines yes, so psa would dock it but would be allowed for a 9.5 surface.
How foolish can you be to buy a card at a record shattering price of nearly $500k after the peak of pokemon hype & try to flip only a few months later in auction? Common sense should’ve said this isn’t a good idea. But then again maybe they’re so rich they just pissed the money away for the hell of it.
There are a ton of different reasons to buy a card and a ton of different reasons to sell a card. We don’t know the exact circumstances of the ownership of this card. I recently sold a card for lower than I would have preferred simply because it opened up an opportunity for something else.
I say this, but the 60% drop in the magnitude of $300,000 has got to be pretty hard to justify. All we can do is wonder though. And man that auction format looked painful lol, hopefully that gets sorted out.
The point I’m trying to drive home is, if you bought a card for $500k then want/need to offload it for whatever reason, listing it at auction rather than listing as a fixed listing for say $400k is probably not the smartest idea. Clearly before there was at least one other person who originally wanted it close to the $500k price, so by listing at a fixed price you cater directly to that person, rather than allowing that initial runner-up to acquire it the 2nd time for only $200k.
Agreed, I think this also highlights that the stigma that these elite level priced items aren’t necessary directly correlated to diamond hand/genius investors who operate in a zone us mortals cant imagine and really, anyone can make great/poor financial moves in proportion to their current financial position regardless of whether its a $5,$500 or $500,000 card.
I couldn’t believe that card was ever worth anywhere near whoever bought it paid for it. Even what it sold for yesterday doesn’t completely mesh with me. It absolutely reeks of some successful long time sports card collector coming into Pokemon and making lazy parallel assumptions thinking they know it all, but I could be way off… expensive lesson for that individual anyway, who knows what the real story is there.
There are sooo many modern chase cards in this block. Looking at you Charizard. With the talk of all the reprints, seems risky to buy these modern cards.
I think I counted 10 or 11 XY Evolutions Mega FA charizard PSA 10s this block.
Some new Pokemon youtuber (with a larger main channel) was talking about how great
a set it is, how much value there is and that it’ll be a $10,000 box in a few years.
This, this and more this. The card simply wasn’t worth what it sold for in the first place. When I first heard about the sale to say I was shocked is an understatement.
Always thought my first ever PWCC purchase would be a Pokemon card. Little did I know, as a New Orleans Pelicans fan, it would be a Dirk rookie card haha. Dirk’s my all time favorite athlete with Drew Brees, so it makes a little more sense. I have a Dirk signed jersey it would go nice with.
Didn’t think I’d see another Pelicans fan on this forum! I was hopeful we’d at least be able to make the play-in game but… well maybe we’ll actually be able to play some defense next year.
I actually just recently bought my first ever sports card. Was sort of an impulse buy but I just saw that Zion Net Marvels card and thought it was so cool looking.
