The most undervalued Pokemon cards

I have always wondered if there was difference between the cards inside the Blue vs Green Pikachu World packaging. So besides the Japan country Pikachu holo being green versus blue, are all the other cards exactly the same? But yes, definitely agree the holo art on this is amazing for the price currently. Love the French one.

Deltas. I think the Gold Stars were nice and all, but I think the Delta holos were beautiful and really well done. They don’t get enough credit as cards.

I really feel a lot of the orginal ruby and sapphire EX cards are undervalued, they’re all so beautiful and collectible. I really love my sneasel EX!

The first three EX-series sets had double the pull rates for exs than the later sets (6 per box vs 3 per box). And, of those first three sets, Ruby Sapphire had by far the largest print run. The Ruby Sapphire exs don’t seem undervalued to me. If anything, the holos from Ruby Sapphire are undervalued — same pull rate, but 14 different ones vs 8 different exs. So holos are, individually, rarer. Though this is somewhat mitigated by the fact that a random holo was included in each theme deck.

TIL!

It’s a weird thing lol. Not sure why they decided that ultra rares should be easier to acquire than holo rares, but ultra rares definitely earned their title by the time Team Rocket Returns came out — pull rate of 2.5 a box (every other box, an ex pull is displaced by a gold star pull; or at least I am fairly confident this is the case). And that set had 11 different exs compared to Ruby’s 8! All of this is reflected in the price difference between the two.

Then you had some sets that had exs that were in between these rarity-wise — such as Holon Phantoms and Delta Species. Three different exs in each set, pull rate of one per box. So 1 of any given ex per 108 packs vs Ruby’s 1 per 48 packs vs. TRR’s 1 per 159 packs.

I am very blessed to have a rockets scizor then I suppose, ahaha.

Tbh 1st base still is lol

People seem to forget base got reprinted so much, the only thing that keeps people into it and what makes them claim its undervalued is nostalgia, 1st editions, and shadowless cards (or a combo of both.) I really do believe the cards, especially base unlimited, are pretty accurately priced.

Tbh no, doesn’t matter how reprinted it was IMO. Because now they don’t exist, you’re not finding anymore and i dont think people will be buying them and cracking them anymore haha

I see a hilariously larger amount of these cards sell daily than I do any highly sought after cards in raw form from other sets, namely e series.

Base unlimited is readily available yes, a few months ago it was very easy to pick up mint raw base unlimited holos, but now even that chase has started to slow down(but they’re still possible to find here and there)

mint raw base 1st holos though? I’ve only found two in the past year, and the two I picked up were bought in January :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, I agree. As I mentioned shadowless and 1st edition (and the holy combo) are still incredibly nice and could definitely be worth a bit more.

I did just sell my luxray FB level x for 80, people are slowly starting to grab them.

First of all, not sure if you realize this or not - all 1st edition Base cards are also Shadowless. When people refer to 1st edition cards it automatically means “1st edition Shadowless” and when people refer to Shadowless cards it means “Shadowless cards that are not 1st edition.”

But the main point, 1st edition and Shadowless Base Set is in a different league than Unlimited Base Set. The distribution of these cards is absolutely minuscule compared to Unlimited Base Set. There is a much starker divide between 1st ed and Unlimited in this set compared to other WOTC sets. Being 1st edition for the 1st set is a different animal. Beyond that, the printing for 1st ed / Shadowless is quite different compared to the Unlimited cards - not only do they lack a shadow, but there are various printing differences, the most significant being that the 1st ed / Shadowless cards have a very different and much more vibrant color scheme.

You really just can’t put Unlimited Base in the same class as 1st ed and Shadowless Base.

I do realize 1st ed and shadowless are one and the same, what I meant was that there are non 1st shadowless cards. Again, my point was base unlimited is priced as it should be.

Im echoing the same thing people said above, but I wouldnt be surprised if there were still as many as 100,000 sealed Base unlimited boxes out there.
I dont think it’ll matter though since all of them arent on the market at once. And if theres any pack people want to open, its base unlimited. The cards & box will slowly continue rising, but i wouldnt say undervalued.

The price increase of Base Unlimited has been shocking to me for this reason. I remember it taking several weeks to sell my box for $150 on eBay. And this is within the past decade. For something so common, it really is just mind blowing to me that it’s now worth $10k. These were easily available for dirt cheap for 15+ years after they were released. The hobby’s boomed in the past 5 years, but enough for the box to go up 50x?

Nostalgia is everything in this hobby though. That box is literally nostalgia in a can. It doesn’t get more pure. As a child nothing would excite me more than spending my £2.50 on a pack and seeing that half empty booster box on the counter of the shop. I imagine that powerful memory is the same for a lot of people.

For ages I’ve been so relaxed about buying a box, telling myself ill do it ‘eventually’ as base set boxes are so common. Then suddenly boxes start to increase and the panic sets in because I’ve always had an intention to own one of those boxes and I cannot afford to lose the opportunity.

Its such a marquee item to have on display in a collection. So there qre probably still loads, but its something people are happier to just hold for a long time and enjoy.
