The most forgettable gen 3 Pokémon?

The knock-off Metapod and Kakuna…

Does anyone even know their names off the top of their head?

Sometimes I forget Luvdisc is even a Pokemon

Only reason I remember its existence is when I need a heartscale

Silcoon and Cascoon are pretty memorable to me at least. Wurmple is one of the first Pokemon you can catch in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald and it had a split evolution. I remember evolving several Wurmples trying to get both of these.

I think it’s Azurill. In the Gen 3 games you can’t encounter it in the wild and you can only get it by breeding Marill/Azumarill while it’s holding a specific item. Meanwhile, you can catch Marill in the wild so I can see a lot of people completely missing it.

If it weren’t for the annoying forced encounter with kecleon and castform, they’d both be up there for me.

I’m sure anyone who’s played Mystery Dungeon hasn’t forgotten Kecleon, and probably never will (especially if you ever tried to shoplift from one). :smiling_face_with_tear:

My vote goes to Zangoose, who I suppose some people will remember thanks to its relationship with Seviper, but is otherwise quite bland in my opinion.

We have a winner; Huntail!

Somewhat sad to me, because as someone who´s first handtrained Pokémon back in 2000 was Cloyster, I liked Clamperl and the deep dives too. But, I guess it´s fair.

It’s unfortunate, probably being a trade (+multiple) evolution for a late game pokemon didn’t help. It suffer also for the remoraid-octillery syndrome, people really can’t easily connect it to clamperl and assumed it didn’t evolve

Not to mention that it’s been completely outclassed by its counterpart since day 1. Gorebyss is a terror under the right circumstances. Hell, I ran Deepseatooth Clamperl on Trick Room teams in BW rotation.

But Huntail is just, and I say this with deep sadness, relegated to being a Magcargo-worthy Shell Smash pantomime in random battles together with the Wormadams and the Spindas. :sob:

It’s all Gamefreaks fault.

Well, it does have some unpredictability to it because unlike Gorebyss it can also go physical. But yeah, generally overclassed. A cool Pokémon though.

Indeed. Kind of niche.

Gorebyss for me, or possibly azurill just based on forgetting it’s a gen 3 mon (similarly my favorite “forgot what region” pokemon is skarmory because it’s rare gen 2 but prominently featured in gen 3).

People suggesting castform - come on! Castform is one of the best gen 3 mons

It’s mixed 99% of the time so you’d generally expect physical attacks from it.

True, but it gives the user some extra options (you can predict your opponent sends in a Defensive Pokémon if the logical choice would be a physical move, and use a special move insstead). I have to be honest though. I only used it sporadically and it didn´t work all that well haha, so you´re probably right.

Yeah, it’s just not a realistic scenario because Huntail is pure hyper offense with an extremely predictable movepool. There’s not much room for pivoting when it’s in.

It’s cool though that it’s not exactly like Gorebyss. I think there should’ve been greater differences between them. 104/94 to 124/74 for example.

Indeed. The mono watertype doesn´t help either.

I take it you played competitive in more than one format. I only played Battle Spot Singles Gen 6/7. Good luck trying any of these in a metagame dominated by Scarf Garchomp, Mega Salamence and the king of all; Power Up Punch/Sucker Punch Mega Kangaskhan.

Competitive in Gen 2-6 in many tiers, yes.

And very true, lol! I also played Battle Spot in Gen 6, these deep sea creatures have no business there unfortunately.

Haha, me too. I´m getting annoyed just by thinking about it again.

There you go with all your perfect IV´s/EV´s, movepool, plan ect. → Garchomp used Outrage (critical hit), Gorebyss/Huntail or whatever lover tier Pokémon fainted.

:joy:  I permanently lost my taste for bottom tier frankenteams after 11 straight losses on the XY Battle Spot with my Exeggutor + Eviolite Rhydon combo.

Haha yeah that sounds like a doomed combo, you try hard to be cool/refreshing, but that swag is lost fast when your ranking starts dropping. Better get yourself a Kangakshan…
