The Giant Professional Grading Thread

I have a reverse holo Pikachu from Skyridge that has a small ‘dot’ on the front side. I’ve checked and it’s part of the foil, not a scratch. Would this have any bearing on grade?

Only one way to find out

Lots of recent movement on a small PSA order submitted before the deadline (7 Regular cards, 1 Express card).

For both orders:
Arrived at PSA - 03/01/21
Research and ID - 04/05/21
Grading - 04/06/21

When were these entered? I have an order and have seen many from March that are marked as arrived, so just wondering what the timeline looks after they eventually enter these all.

Hi Everyone, first time post on e4…Does anyone have any experience cross-grading, particularly between PSA and BGS? I am interested in a BGS 8.5 with good sub grades (9.5,9,8.5,8.5) to add to a set of PSA 9/8s. I would prefer all the cards in the set be graded by PSA to improve display quality (and I just prefer PSA). I think the card would get a PSA 9, but I guess I would be fine if it did get an 8. I just obviously would want to avoid the disaster of getting a 7. I think that’s highly unlikely, but you never know. How do you feel about having mixed BGS/PSA cards in one set together? Have you ever had any disaster stories of cross grading? How do you price BGS 8.5s in relation to PSA pricing, is it closer to 8 than 9? As I said, first time poster and relatively new to the hobby, so please feel free to yell at me for posting too long of a question with a bunch of sub questions if that’s not what is typically done here (I already mistakenly posted this in the Questions thread before coming here). Thanks!

I guess. The dot looks like a speck of dirt so I’m pretty sure PSA would give it a 6 or something based on how rigid their standards are :smile:

They were entered yesterday (04/05/21).

Had another order or two entered in the system today and another go into grading phase. They seem to be moving much more rapidly at least entering into the system.

Fingers crossed that I’ll see something similar soon. I have an Express order that arrived on 3/4. Hopefully I’ll be updating this thread in a few days

Not likely.

I can get them graded via MNT if youd like though, basically the same design of case and standards of bgs

Instead of “rigid” I think you should say random.
I have a friend which regraded a card 7 times and got 4 different grades, finally stopping when they got the 10.
If they were rigid they wouldnt have given so many different grades

As a weekly update: I’m still waiting on my May Ludkins submission (June at PSA) to be graded.

In the past week PSA have graded over* 18,996 Pokémon cards bringing the 5 week average to over 99,958. Usually the PSA 9 and 10 grades are pretty level with each other, but this week over 2,000 more PSA 9 grades were seen (5,257 PSA 10 vs. 7,298 PSA 9).

To continue the usual trend, the 3 most graded cards this week were:

  • Base Set unlimited Charizard #4 - 346 copies graded (1 PSA 10);
  • Champion’s Path Charizard VMAX #74 - 235 copies graded (165 PSA 10);
  • Champion’s Path Charizard VMAX #79 - 215 copies graded (121 PSA 10).

In terms of sets, again nothing abnormal here in the top 3 for the past week:

  • Hidden Fates - 1,191 cards graded (674 PSA 10);
  • Base Set unlimited - 991 cards graded (11 PSA 10);
  • XY Evolutions - 791 cards graded (142 PSA 10).

There were 3,211 Charizard cards graded by PSA in the past week (16.9% of all the Pokémon cards graded in this time), of which 1,101 received PSA 10 grades and 1,024 received PSA 9 grades.

* As mentioned in previous posts, PSA’s pop report search indexing is broken and hasn’t been updated in months. A lot of newer sets are missing and need manually adding, and there will be a fair amount of sets which have been missed. If you know of any sets which do not appear when searching for “Pokemon” on PSA’s pop report which PSA have graded cards from, please link me to the set or share a certificate number with me - I’d really appreciate it.

New potential Grading opportunity for people in the UK: majestygrading.com or MGC. Saw them on my insta feed and thought the logo looked nice and the case wasn’t bad upon first look. I don’t see sub-grades though. Haven’t attempted to give a thorough look so I’d suggest digging deeper than I did. They launch apparently in May so we’ll see how they look once their first few cards go through. They just finished 500 trial cards through their services.

PSA’s CTD’s are well past June subs for every service level at this point. They say on their website if your order is not complete and it didn’t require “special handling” or there was no payment issues and it’s past the CTD to contact them to look into the sub. Is there any other reason why a sub registered in June now is not complete or is PSA just completely off with their CTD’s already? Just curious because I’ve been following their CTD for my own subs coming up as well

The CTD are for registered orders, not for when they arrived at PSA, I think PichuFans order was received by PSA in june but it was not registered until later. The CTD also are not for dealers, they have completely different tiers which are not in the CTD table.

First time grading with BGS and was very impressed with the turnaround speed (Express) and the ease of using their submission form/website.

Nice bonus not to have to pay for any membership fees also. Going to use them more often for chase Zards and the like!

Yeah I figured it was when they were registered but he said Ludkins “May” submission and June at PSA so I figured he meant it was registered with PSA in June. Strange how dealers would have completely different CTD. I would think it would be comparable to at least the oldest CTD date for dealers.

To echo what @thymeee has said above, they were received by PSA on 19th June but weren’t registered until 31st July. So far 12/43 of Ludkins’ ‘Standard’ orders have been graded from this submission - 9 of which were graded before Christmas and 3 more were graded a few weeks back. PSA’s CTD for quarterly specials is currently 27th July - I wasn’t aware that Ludkins submitted these as part of the quarterly specials but that’s the only option listed which still falls before the registered date on my submission.

With any luck they will have been graded by the end of the month, but who knows!

Edit: And to reply to your post above mine: there was a 2 month delay between the cards being received by Ludkins and the cards ending up being registered by PSA.

You’ll have to post the card for a proper estimate but the subgrade system allows for things to happen at lower grades that you’d never expect to see at the equivalent PSA grade. On the other end of the spectrum subgrades allow for very strict control on what is considered gem mint/pristine.

Does anybody have any non express subs from Beckett they have submitted / received in past 6 or so months?

I have a 20 day, first time submitting with Beckett, back from October and have no idea if I have another 6 months to go or what to expect lol
