The Giant Professional Grading Thread

So in theory they should catch that but it is quite subtle so I’d definitely write in on the invoice slip what the error is for this one

Thank you!

Pokémon Snack Card. What grade is this? Any idea on value and is it worth grading given how few of them there are?

Sure does, thanks! Was helpful to advise that I should also add media from the event as well. I hope it works out well especially with how uncertain they’ve been with Japanese autographs lately.

Decided to submit to BGS for the 1st time in a few years. How have their turn around times been for the standard teir? Also, what are the stages of their grading process. Im currently at “invoice created”.

Never seen this before - certified as “missing texture” error, but scans seem to clearly show texture?

Has anyone developed a good technique for safely cracking the new PSA slabs?

I’ve been taking a portable bandsaw and cutting along the yellow lines. Plastic bits get everywhere but the case comes cleanly apart and it’s very easy to access and remove the card without damaging it.

I’ve cracked a lot of them.

It’s hard to describe, but they feel more… pliable(?) than the previous design. Less brittle, with more give.

I would recommend cracking off the top two corners and the top edge as well. I use a wire cutter. I have found these slabs more difficult to open than the previous design, so be careful.

Tile Clipers, clip the corners, then all around the card.
It should come off pretty easily, and if it takes too much force, you’re trying to clip the outside too deep.

I would also clip one of the top corners a bit deeper so you can insert a screwdriver to start propping up the slab. It should come up pretty easily because it is already clipped all around and on all corners.

If I were to submit cards for grading ie umbreon vmax alt art and get it authenticated vs a grade would it be cheaper since if I had gotten a grade and let’s say it gets a 10 I’d have to pay extra fees for it to ship back to me where if I just got it authenticated there’d be no extra fee?

With my understanding about authentication vs grading prices here I say you should just grade it. Just to authenticate at that price point would be $100 vs $75 for the grade and in the gradings case it would be a faster turnaround time of 10 vs 20 estimated days. Especially if you think it’ll get a 10, that’s just a good card to have in that condition.

I’m still rather new to grading a lot myself so someone correct me if these numbers are off.

Thanks for the response, I’m an idiot and the chance of getting anything but a 10 bothers me and if it gets a 10 having to pay extra fees to get the card back sounds stressful, hence the reason why Im curious about just getting a card authenticated when/if I decide to send in my cards to either psa/bgs, I assumed getting a card authenticated and put in a case holder would be ideally cheaper and quicker since it would be skipping the grading process after being authenticated, I looked at psa and tried to find prices but it only showed bulk and single card submission prices I assume that on the form it would ask you if you’d like to get your card graded or just authenticated but I couldn’t find a price for just getting a card authenticated on the pricing guide, is it 100$ flat for a single card submission or just umbreon specifically? And if I were to do a bulk submission to get all cards authenticated only would I be paying 100$ for each card still

No problem, no idiots here Yeah I had to go in to submit and go from there. These are the results I found:

First I went in to the auto and authentication section and just chose to auth.

Then here were the prices:

Moonbreon is about a $850- card raw and $1300- in a 10 so you would have to go regular which is more expensive than the standard grading regular at $75 which is both a max declared valuse of $1500. That being said if there is a different way to choose cheaper authentication from PSA I haven’t found it yet.

Ahh okay, thank you, this helps a lot, I’ll definitely have to do some more thinking on this and also I’m assuming from the picture that since the max declared value of basically all the cards I’d be submitting is less than 1500 I wouldn’t be paying any extra fees after being authenticated?

Of course. Hope you what end up doing goes well.

Anyone done a BGS sub recently?

My submission arrived with them on the 16th (standard) and am yet to receive an email confirming they received them - normally they do this within 1-2 days.

Are they slower ATM?

my base sub arrived 8/28 and just got grades yesterday

That’s great - I’m just confused why mine hasn’t been marked as received yet for 4 days!

  1. 12.99 Offer is still going on till the end of September

  2. Do you think they’ll go lower? PSA once held firm at not going below $15 under their new ownership, but that seems to have changed. I’m curious if you think we might see specials dropping to $11 or even $10 again. What’s your take on it?
