Thanks, that’s what it graded but I thought it actually would have been lower. Happy with the result then

-5 points for a corner crease seems pretty reasonable to me. PSA 1-4 are usually demolished.

I’m almost certain that majority of submissions are done via automatically with scans with no human verification on the grade unless it’s of high value and/or rarity.

So, i would say majority of pokemon submissions have no manual oversight.

It’s why i think there are some really wonky grades because maybe machines werent calibrated properly or didnt scan the cards correctly. I think if the rest of the card is pretty much flawless, it wouldn’t hurt to re-grade it if you can afford it and see if a better grade comes out of it.

Reasons why I think grading is done automatically?

This is only listed on the PSA Japan FAQ, and this was on the FAQ page long before PSA announced they were uploading scans of your card during the process for you to view:

PSA acquired Genamint to help speed up with the grading process: https://www.psacard.com/articles/articleview/10391/psa-acquires-genamint-introduce-next-generation-technology-grading-process

PSA doesn’t even hire card graders really anymore: Job openings at PSA

My theory is that PSA has been automating the grading process for a long time with pretty much no manual verification on majority of submissions for quite some time (which is why they’ve been able to deal with so many submissions with relatively short turn around time). But people don’t trust automated grading completely yet, and more people feel more at ease with the idea believing that there’s a human manually reviewing cards/grades, which is why PSA stated that it’s simply a tool to assist human graders.

But that’s just my own belief. If someone has some insider knowledge or can provide insight on how my theory is wrong, i’m all ears.

I know someone who visited the grading room not that long ago, I can confirm there are still humans lol

Got my CGC results back today, and mixed in was this one. I’ve never had this happen before! I can’t see anything wrong with it, maybe they think it’s inked or colored in?

Oh well, at least I got some pristines

Any experts on Yugioh? What do you think my Blue eyes would grade?

dm with your discord and I can introduce to some guys who are into yugioh

i 100% believe there are graders there, but could you elaborate on his experience? why he went or had access? i imagine PSA would show visitors exactly what they want them to see, but not that it necessarily reflects the normal day to day operations or how grading for all cards are handled

It’s not my story to elaborate on but I can assure you it wasn’t a “diplomatic visit to North Korea” kind of experience.

i mean most HQ visits doesnt need to be the same or compared to visiting North Korea. its understandable if you feel like it’s not your story to share, but just was curious what the nature behind the visit was. i dont think its super common to get a tour of PSA grading locations so was just curious

Recently purchased this guy. I’m thinking maybe 5-6?

Looks like a 5-6 to me depending if there’s a crease or dent.

I have a question.

Is it true if you send a let’s say psa 9 card to psa for a rejoinder in a new case. If they think it’s not worthy of a 9 grade they will bump it down and pay you the difference?

I thought refunded services don’t regrade and stuck to the original grade and just put on a new case.

They reserve the right to change the grade if the case is damaged

Reholdering will not change the grade. If there is a massive crack down the middle of the slab and it might have damaged the card, then they have the right to regrade it, but that’s a very unique scenario.

Hi all, I am looking to submit my gold stars and have a question on which tier to use for PSA, quite the difference in price so just looking for views on what grade it is as?

There is whitening , surface print lines and a indent I have circled which is very small but indent none the less , I have no idea what grade this gets thanks

You can just put it in the lowest tier and they will upgrade it automatically according to the grade. If that’s really a dent you can expect a grade of 4-6.

Do not put it in the lowest tier. If they damage your card or your package is lost in transit back to you, you will get paid out the valuation that you added to that lowest tier. That would lose you thousands of dollars for saving a few dozen dollars in grading costs.

Submit at the level that allows for a fair valuation of its price after grading.

That is also fair advice. But doesn’t it cost more directly, submitting to a higher tier? If I remember correctly, if they upgrade your tier, you get a better price.

Yes, you will get a better price if they upcharge you. But your insurance level will not change to my knowledge.

Let’s say that OP gets a PSA 7 on their Rayquaza :goldstar:. That is worth about $4,000. If they submit at bulk ($14.99/card), they can only declare a value of $200. If the card is damaged or lost in transit, they will be out $3,800 to have saved $230 if they submitted at Super Express ($249; 5 days turnaround) or $115 if they submitted at Express ($129; 5 days turnaround).

Best to not step over dollars to save pennies when it comes to expensive cards. My personal recommendation would be to submit at Express and declare $2,500. Super Express would be overkill unless the card truly looks mint.
