The Giant Professional Grading Thread

I don’t believe that’s true, at least not for CGC. CGC has started offering free subgrades for any card that achieves a perfect 10. How would any card get a perfect 10 if they aren’t calculating subgrades by default, even for orders without subgrades?

Have an sub with PSA that is “shipped”, but it never got picked up by Fedex, or at least there is NO tracking at Fedex, it’s been a 4 days after it should have been delivered now. There been almost 1 week since I sent PSA a email, and 3 days since I called them.

Anyone have this happend before, that they “lost” a package at PSA?

Hey guys, not sure if this is the right thread, but I wasn’t sure where to post it. I’ve been really excited to receive my Shadowless Alakazam in the mail and today I finally got it. It’s graded a PSA 8. However, when I opened it, I was disappointed. I have a few 8s and I’m aware of the general parameters and I don’t feel like this card meets it at all. The holo on it is heavily scratched. It looks like someone purposefully tried to scratch it and then threw it in a binder pocket filled with sand for 10 years. It also has minor surface scratches on non-holo areas of the card revealing the foil beneath. It’s crooked in the slab, so it also looks like the top right and bottom left edge have been clamped when it was closed.

I know this isn’t the sellers fault, and there’s nothing to really be done about it, it’s just very upsetting, as I was really excited about receiving this card. At first I suspected maybe it was fake slab/ re-slabbed with a worse condition card, but it’s definitely real and doesn’t show any signs of having been opened up. I was planning on buying more PSA 8 Shadowless cards, but now I feel unsure, I don’t really have the money to be rolling the dice on cards like this, especially if it’s gonna make me unhappy. Can anyone offer me some consolation lol im so annoyed bc it’s such an awesome card too. guess ill just have to enjoy it in low light lol

That really sucks. If it’s any comfort, most of my collection has been vintage 8s I bought and cracked. For all the 8s I’ve bought, there’s only been one time where the card inside blatantly did not deserve the grade it got. It definitely taught me to inspect every card more carefully and look beyond the label, but I would say you can continue to buy 8s with confidence because I have never had a problem since and every other PSA 8 has been consistent with what I expect from the grade.

There are always cards out there that got graded better (and worse) than they should have, but they are not common. As long as you’re a little more careful going forward, this probably won’t happen to you again. Hopefully this will be your one time too!

Has anyone ever sent in a football/basketball/baseball patch card to PSA before? I know they want everything to be submitted via card savers, but card savers only work for normal thickness cards. Patch cards only fit in special top loaders. Are they okay with me sending them in in a toploader?

I know this isn’t pokemon related, but there aren’t very many good sports card forms that I know of.

any of you had a 10 with centering this bad?

Might get yelled at for this but I send all my subs to psa in Toploaders. Have never had an issue.

Yea, it’s certainly a lesson! I’m very meticulous about condition, so normally I do inspect graded cards very carefully, but this one, for whatever reason, I just didn’t. My first and only shadowless holo, I’ve been thinking of buying this card for months lol. Ah well, I’ll get over it. Appreciate the response!

Does anyone have any experience grading Sun and Moon Master Battle Collection cards (i.e. Alola Friends, Pikachu SM-P 400) with PSA? It looks like 10s aren’t that difficult to get, but there are quite a few 9s…especially for Alola Friends. Any issues in particular to look out for?

Think psa don’t penalise tilts. Centering tilts tilts me lol.

Top to bottom centering on the Alolan Friends is usually the issue I have run into when I opened 4 boxes a while back. 1/4 were 10s for the friends and 4/4 were 10s for Pika.

Looks like Value is on the way back from PSA for modern. Sports middlemen now accepting at $30 per card, max value $299, and turnaround of 6 months. Cards must be 1996 or newer

Does Beckett charge their grading fee plus an additional insurance fee?

Yeah but that fee is based on what you tell them your stuff is worth. They do not care if you insure a zard for 100$ they wont upcharge you in 2 years when they finish your order and market price has changed while they held your stuff

I don’t know if I should be happy because I have MINT cards with the only defect being off centerd or sad for the PSA standard, this would surely have been BGS 8 10 10 10 = 9?

Looks like PSA don’t really grade harshly on printlines. Printlines are in parameters of a psa 10. That being said, do anyone noticed that recent Japanese sets are filled with printlines? Especially v max climax onwards.

Is there any hope in contacting PSA directly despite having used a middleman service (Ludkins)? It’s driving me nuts that my cards are gone for 18 months+ with little to no feedback and no progression whatsoever in the last 6 months.

I have been patient for so long but my patience is running thin. It really hurts as its alot of money and there is no one to turn to )=

Hi! I will be making a submission to PSA for grading, and I would like to make the submission so the cards certificates are in a specific order. How do I make the submission for that? If I make the submission in the website listing the cards in the specific order I want them, and also I place the cards from top to bottom in the same order, they would grade them in the order I want and therefore the certificate numbers would be correlative? Or what would be the correct approach for that? Thank you!

Edit:
This is how the submission form looks like

Should I also mention it in submission comments/requests?

PSA cert numbers will correlate to the order you submit the cards in, so you shouldn’t have to do anything else.

They will be done when they’re done! nothing Ludkins can do to speed it up.
