The Giant Professional Grading Thread

I imagine they’ll just slab the whole thing like a regular card

Only collectors club members. It is not open to general public yet.

I’m planning to do psa submission myself for the first time. Will I able to print everything with 4x6 thermal shipping printer?

No. Not even the barcode. It’s really annoying actually.

Bummer

OMG and help me up off the floor!!
On a whim I just checked the status at Ludkins of my small bulk rate order of 1999 Unlimiteds that went ‘live’ at PSA waaay back on October 12, 2020 and… it is now showing as being in QA Check 1 !!!
Nothing yet from Ludkins about an upcharge (there’s a Charizard and a Venusaur in there that pregraded as 9s), but Stop The Bus Batman!!

Which alternative grading company’s 9 grades would have the best shot at getting a 10?

CGC or Beckett?

Does Beckett or CGC take a different approach to grading when a card is ordered with subgrades versus when it is not? I mean this in a sense that when they grade a card that does not require sub grades, are they grading it quicker, and more at face value (like PSA?).

I ask this because I have a card that has heavy printing scratches on it and I feel like it has a better chance at getting an 8.5 if they are writing down the numbers and then have to average the grade up.

Can’t say for certain about Beckett. CGC claims they don’t, but there was an employee that admitted so during a Q & A. Now they don’t allow graders to speak with the public, so hard to say.

I’ve merged your post into the Giant Grading Thread instead of locking it. Next time please post it there yourself.

Also, you might want to clarify your post a bit, since your question is a bit confusing. Do you want to grade from any grading company to CGC or BGS (e.g. MNT-9 or AG-9 or PCA-9 to CGC/BGS), or from CGC or BGS to the other / vice-versa?

In both cases, I’d say the chances are pretty slim to crossgrade a 9 to a 10. Both CGC and BGS doesn’t give 10s too often, so I doubt a 9 from another grading company would cross over to a 10 in CGC or BGS.

I just checked mine and they’re in QA Check 2!!!

Still no change in the pop report on PSA’s site though, so not sure how much longer I have.

For those that have had middleman bulk subs completed recently, how long does it usually take to complete QA2?

Which phase does it get added to the pop report?

When I saw the CGC announcement about price changes and shipping the first thing I thought was that they would lower the prices, $12 per card and maybe $5 sub-grades . Then I thought, strange, if that were the case, many would wait until July 5th to send cards
Then I opened the page, boom $15 sub-grades!. Grading costs $15, sub-grades $15, we complain about the high PSA costs but this is tolerable due to the high demand. But CGC instead? This is ridiculous, many collectors were disappointed with this news, on Instagram it is already full of complaints.
What do you think?

$30 submission fee just isn’t worth it when PSA is $50.

Probably helping more people out to quit grading shit cards haha

PSA is still $100 unless you buy membership. $20 difference per card is still quite significant if you are sending in large bulk orders

I don’t see the value in getting sub grades for a lower end card anyway, even at $10 extra. Maybe I’m in the minority but I still don’t think this will change the way most people submit to cgc

Truth. You should only get subs (even though they look great on the label) if you have modern that you can think can possibly get all 10s or vintage if you think it can get a 9+ IMO The value isn’t there otherwise

Is there a reason why sub grades cost more? I know there doesn’t have to be, realistically. The companies can charge what they want. But does CGC change how they grade if subs are included? If not, then is the only difference what gets printed on the label?

They have stated that doing sub-grades takes way longer, that’s the reason.

When you submit without subgrades, they are not still calculating all 4 areas and assigning a final grade off those calculations. So no, it’s not only a difference of what they print on the label.
