Aruba, Jamaica, oh I want to take ya
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego, baby why don’t we go, Jamaica
Off the Florida Keys, there’s a place called Kokomo
Welp. Snap Articuno went for ¥7.04M (6.4M + 10% auction house buyer premium). Had really hoped would be lower since condition looked around PSA 6, went too high for me to bid, but was cool to watch one sell. Anyone here win? The type of condition issues imo are the ideal kind to have for PSA <8 cards; maintains everything aesthetically pleasing about the card without overly distracting wear.
Masaki, Ooyama, oh I wanna take ya mama to
The vending, the postcards; Keiko Fukuyama
The trophies, the promos baby why don’t we go
Way back to Cardass, we’ll read a trainer mag and then
I’ll take dat ass to see the master keys
I want exclusive Japanese
It’s okay, nothing can compare to Chansey . So I feel relieved and grateful to have gotten before Snaps reached this price after Charmander went for ¥8.2M. Just would be nice for her to have a Snap friend one day.
Hey Everyone! Need some help identifying these cards. Ive always enjoyed non-TCG Japanese cards and have collected various Carddass/sealdass/Zukan ones over the years. But these cards I found caught my eye and appear to be completely legit but I have been unable to find any real info on them like how they were released and how large the set is. The guy I purchased them from in Australia believed they were inserted into Zukan boxes as promotions for the various movies in the early 2000s but I have been unable to verify that info. There’s been one set of 15 cards I can find on eBay that were graded by BGS but when you pull up the set registry no info comes up.
I’ve reached out to some very knowledgeable Japanese collectors on here as well as on Facebook and have come up short on anything about them. If anyone could shed some light on them I’d greatly appreciate it!
My gut feeling is that those are counterfeit. Any time I see that 1970s-era hologram-tape pattern on a Pokemon card, my first reaction is that it’s a fake. Additionally, the copyright dates on the backs of the cards are inconsistent, and seem to relate to the year the movies were released rather than the cards (if legit) were printed. So, that’s also a red flag for me.
However, I could be wrong, so let’s wait to hear from some other members as well.
This too was my initial reaction to them. The fronts seem really off in terms of design as they seem inconsistent and poorly done.
However the backs seem very consistent with designs we have seen.
Someone could have designed them as bootlegs that way, choosing the movies as they think it would be more appealing to everyone but this would be speculation at best until more information can be found.
But we would really need more evidence before I would feel confident accepting them.
Random question but, does anyone know of any acrylic cases for Japanese theme decks? My understanding is that the dimensions are different than English theme decks, so those cases won’t work
It depends on the context. it actually isn’t a red flag here as the cards I referred to above are verified as authentic and don’t have the manufacturer (Bandai) listed on the card (which is correct for the period they were released). As for the copyright years being inconsistent on the cards I would imagine this is do with the earliest content on the cards (from the movies), not the cards themselves.
I think they are convincing even though the fronts really are designed terribly. I also found it surprising to see them as prisms too but maybe whoever signed off on the butchered reworking of the movie posters as a design choice, thought that the cards needed all of the help they could get.
If I had to hazard a guess I think it may have been thrown together for the promotion of a boxset release or something similar, instead of being a part of a set release.
Again this is speculation on my part. Hopefully we will learn more information about them in the future.
