Lol bro what is this daycare? Grow up with the cheesy shit. Keep playing with your little Bulbasoars in the sandbox while the alphas seek out opportunity and never stop grinding.
Pokemon is all about respecting the chase and the entrepreneurial lifestyle. Every morning I strap my one year old son Hustlurr to my back and gear up for Target and Wal-Mart. Steel toed boots, night vision goggles, extendable plastic arm from medical presentations, I got it all. I don’t work a 9-5 or answer to anyone. I’m my own boss and I’ll die that way.
Pokemon is about the nod you give to the fellow hard working dads camped out at 6am, respecting each other but knowing only one wolf can lead the pack. Alpha to alpha, man to man.
Pokemon is about the endorphin rush when you see brats crying outside McDonald’s, since you know that means the cards will sell like hotcakes. Life ain’t fair kid. It’s the surge of adrenaline as you barrel your cart when Saint Peter opens the Door to Heaven and the fluorescent light from Wal-Mart blinds you with its purity, but you whip out your goggles and rush to the card aisle.
Everything I do, I do for my son Hustlurr. I’m a provider. I only get to see him every other weekend now that my wife has left me and taken the kids (I have some other kids but they’re not young enough to mention), but I’m gonna raise him to be proud.
To me, this picture is what Pokémon is all about. It’s the sealed collection I got for Hustlurr, for him to open when he turns 18. And now that day has come. Everything here is for sale. Hustlurr just turned 18 (months old) and the look in his eyes told me he didn’t care about the cards, he cared about the grind. I’ve never been so proud. Shining Fates pin boxes $79.99 FF or you pay fees plus shipping DM now this deal won’t last.
If ur not at Walmart every restock day (get the distributors number) at 5 A.M. and prepared to punch a mother and her kids in the face, then you’re not a real collector
This is a good shitpost but I want to reiterate that saying “sealed collection” and just posting whatever is on the shelf at Target right now is hilarious, probably my favorite part.
Is it worth making an account on Yahoo Auctions to attempt to communicate with sellers there? There’s some really obscure stuff that is hard to identify in photos that would be great to just ask the seller. Would I need a Japanese address do to that?
Obviously a lot of things don’t require correspondence and the language barrier is always a concern, but it’s hard to take a risk on a $100 listing that may or may not be the exceedingly rare variant you’re on the hunt for or may be the other version you already have that’s worth 7 bucks.
Yes it’s worth it. I had an old account forgot credentials a while back and wanted to re-register recently to ask questions. Goodness they have made it difficult (intentionally) if you are not Japanese. You now need a real Japanese phone number for confirmation text and it can’t be a virtual number. So I may just get a cheapo burner with a Japanese SIM.
Sounds difficult. I’ve never done anything like that before so I’d take any advice you have on how to do that. I also have one acquaintance in Japan I could ask to help me out, he’s helped me out before, so maybe I could have him set up the account for me.
So far, my “I sure hope this is the right card” risks have ended up in my favor. I just made another purchase on context clues and blind faith. Hopefully this continues my hot streak and isn’t an overdue disappointment. But it’s definitely solidified for me that I can’t keep doing this and need to have a plan for next time.
Is this the first time the No.2 Girl Trainer from the 2000 World Challenge Summer has surfaced? Albeit it’s an extra copy, but I don’t think any had been seen yet.
They are both not AMAZING, imo. Kanazawa has some great art, but it’s not unique truly to the box. The eevee heroes espeon is great, but to me really feels like it needs to be with the rest of the eeveelutions for its identity.
The other word of caution I’d throw: I believe there was a lot of kanazawa stock. The price has been STEADY since the second print 3-4 months ago, and I believe this is because they heavily reprinted. I suspect the same will be true about eevee heroes boxes.

You’re better bet imo is to be investing in a long term hold product that is not going to be reprinted / printed in the era we are in now. The supply is already established. There is no print to the current crazy demand like I believe they did with kana / will do with eevee. If you want true mid term, long term returns… you’re better off going back a few years and picking up some more limited release items
This is pretty much my sentiments exactly. Love the variety. I am basically tunnel-visioning on Japanese promos lately and having a lot of fun doing it.
Getting a cgc return with about 20 players club promos and the JR set, all pulls from a couple months ago and really excited to see the specifics of the grades, opposed to just blanket 10 like it would have been with psa
Many years ago when I branched out in to English promos I did so with the confidence I would be able to obtain all of them, sans errors. This was very attractive because I was conditioned towards 100% completion as a set collector. I thought I would never collect Japanese promos because I knew there were lots of them with a reputation for being the most expensive and most rare cards in the world. Since I could not “complete the set”, I decided not to collect them.
Then even as recently as this year I was talking myself out of mounting curiosity. I thought they would be too hard to tell apart, too many variants and complications that would make collecting them a chore.
But I don’t know. Finally I just realized I don’t need to view everything so all or nothing. I don’t need to collect all of something to enjoy collecting most of something. Plus even for set collectors like me there is still a lot of satisfaction in grouping types of promos together (Game Boy promos, CD promos, etc). I just hope that I am not picking the wrong time to get in to something again (hello Neo 1st Edition) and as soon as I start the price of everything quintuples.
Totally feel you on the set aspect. There’s several terrific “mini sets” to go after under the umbrella of Japanese promos. CD promos, movie promos, Pal city promos etc.
