日本のマーケット部分 The Giant Japanese Market Thread

In all seriousness, these were severely undervalued for years but the market is going over the absolute bonkers now.

Looks like someone scooped up some of the last old slabbed 10’s for cheap. The Neo 4 one should have gone for $5k.

Yup, you’re right

I have three of the corrected Ancient Mew I and looked at probably over a hundred listings.

I believe so many mislabels hurt the value.

Check this one out lol, lacks the error in the label and going for a record sale

Might actually help the corrected I in this case

Sheesh these prices are insane. Looks like 6k wasn’t a mistake for that mislabel.

Both of these auctions are run by the same person with bidder identity hidden. I know it could well be a true sale, but I feel like it may not be paid unless you’ve already confirmed?

maybe its time to get off my lazy ass and scan some more japanese packs  i sold that topsun one for way more than that a year ago

I don’t think it’s a true sale regardless of whether it’s been paid!

Can’t decide if crazy or still undervalued.

I knew 2002 McDonalds holo cards were skyrocketing, but I didn’t realize the Bulbasaur was following closely behind:

I couldn’t believe it when I saw listings on eBay for $2k+, only to realize that price is actually at or around current market. Maybe people are starting to like the McDonalds “M” easter egg :pikawink:

This one hurts. I can kind of accept the holo prices.

Make it make sense. Ray vs Torchic. Superior Ray artwork. Basically same print run for both the Blue and Forest sets. Ray lower pop. Maybe a set completion buyer? Didn’t the Pikachu go for even more? I don’t get it.

What would the 90 pop Lugia blue holo go for, even less?? This has to be manipulation or misinformation by newbies, or did I miss a hype pump post or something? Don’t get me wrong, I like the holo and the color scheme and the little fire chick, but this can’t be about the artwork. So confused…

The pokepark forest is not surprisingly way more popular than pokepark blue and always have been, even when pokepark was ignored, which is most of its life. It’s super cohesive, cute and distinct with Kanako Eo’s illustrations.
From what I’ve seen, although Rayquaza is more popular as a fan favourite, its cards are not, compared to Torchic which cards are extremely popular. You might be biased by the Rayquaza GS, but I find that the design of Rayquaza (a long green snake with red lipstick and T-Rex arms) is less conducive overall to tier1 card artwork. So contrary to you, here what I find surprising, is actually the price of the pokepark blue Rayquaza ! To me it doesn’t even come close to the Torchic which is a certified banger with its little rose flower pin.

NB : to be clear I collect both Torchic and Rayquaza so nothing against them. But like most I guess, I was instantly drawn on collecting the forest set and not the blue one, because of the artwork. Prices are simply a reflection of that.

same rayquaza artwork is available in EX emerald, i guess

Huh, so you think it’s esthetics and artwork mostly? I guess comparing these two sets, and the same # of holos, I couldn’t disagree more. And that has nothing to do with the Rayquaza GS. I never imagined anyone would think Torchic is more popular than Rayquaza. Weird. Maybe I’ve just been out of the loop more than I thought the past few years. The Pokepark Blue set looks far more epic, iconic, popular and regal to me. Although Forest has its own appeal, but I’d choose Blue any day. I guess I’m just in the minority.

Might be a good poll question

Torchic is definitely not more popular in general than Rayquaza.

Can’t really comment on the sets themselves since I don’t think I really like the art of either. I’m not sure they had cards in mind when creating the initial illustration unlike the connected arts of today.

People saw PSA 10 Torchic :goldstar: breaking 6 figures first and didn’t understand it was due to being so low pop, and instead attached a bit of that to every other torchic card.

Tangentially, I think being the lowest pop gold star means less today than it did even a year ago. These cards are all so expensive virtually no one is going to go for a complete PSA 10 set*. Functionally there are multiple gold stars that are sufficiently low pop that they command the same low pop premium. 47 vs 18 PSA 10s is kind of the same number.

*Maybe a better way of saying this is that each card’s own identity is stronger now than ever before. Regice is no longer just ‘the worst gold star’.
