Probably Pokemon Japan also has to buy out some local printing facilities to be able to meet this demand. I wonder how many people managed to get boxes from the 600 and probably many more that lined up. Crazy times for Japanese TCG fans.

Yesterday I managed to buy V Star Universe packs from the Pokemon Centre for the first time since the set came out - they were limited customers to 5 packs each which makes a lot of sense for now.

For those who have this card:
I have gotten about 10 offers in the last 24 hours all from Japanese buyers for some undisclosed reason. Has shot up from $350 to $480-500 in the last week.
To give context, I had bought 7 mint copies from Japan in February for $170 each, graded them, and now they are worth close to 500 each… Crazy

Like @Hitmonhops said, definitely waifu tax. I have similarly watched the lillies clefairy promo significantly rise in the same time period. I bought it for 20 bucks years ago and was surprised when it raised to a hundred bucks but it has not stopped and is like 300 bucks raw now.

Same here. I’ve been buying many Dream League cards over the past year or two; that Solgaleo & Lunala GX SR was like $30 - $40 for a long time since; nobody wasn’t looking at those cards. Besides Waifu Tax, I also think its collectors find different stuff to collect, but once a few entities notice caught, prices start to go up.
Best of XY Boosters has been bought out these past two weeks. I know Scott put up four boxes(I think), and they were gone in a few days. It makes me wonder if Japan is moving to the mirror folios since they started going up.

Just observations and some speculations so take the words below with a grain of salt.
Since TPC announced additional printings of SV sets and possible print-to-order plan of Clay Burst, the market had been shifted from SV to SM in April with focus on your usual hot stuff including Supporters and Alt Arts.
This trend became very obvious if you take a closer look at Twitter posts from magi or Clove Base, as both stores are known to focus their business heavily on chase cards:
Check their buyback and sale posts in the past month and notice how they’re all about SM cards.
TBH the new SM hype puzzles me more compared to previous hypes as it’s even more about who’s on the cards than other factors. Any card in the SM era can climb just because it has Lillie in it:

Which gives me a feeling that someone’s losing on SV and decides to earn back by pumping SM since there is much less risk for TPC to announce reprints and ruins their business. But on the other hand, this also means that VU and SV market will be stable for while for those who’s starting on the new gen.

Lillie’s Full Force has been bought out on eBay as well. All but 3 PSA 10s have been sold (for between $400 and $800), and the cheapest now available on eBay is $1400. Seems a little sus to me considering they were selling for $450-$500 consistently just a few weeks ago…

I know this is the Japanese market thread but the effect of JP “waifu” cards has also made certain English counterparts like Ultra Prism Lillie spike in price.
PSA 10 Ultra Prism Lillie was going for $700 - $800 back in December. We’re now seeing sales between $1,200 - $1,400 with some outliers above that. Still nowhere near the price of the JP card, which is hitting prices nearly unheard of for a set card.

Yea you can go with Fan Club Eevee/Magikarp or Art Academy cards, or go with the more expensive GX Battle Boost Lillie and Extra Battle Day Lillie? I guess it doesn’t always have to make sense. Or maybe it does make sense. What do I know

I mean that was its original price when it released, still kinda crazy considering this card was heavily distributed and there are enormous amount of PSA graded cards.
