please just, dont. “whales” as a slang term isn’t disrespectful. In this case it literally just means someone who has the ability to spend a lot of money on something. Like a “bitcoin whale” who has tons of bitcoin.
Sorry for coming down on this but I’m literally running out of words to describe things with everything being or becoming disrespectful.
if you call someone a whale because they are fat yeah that’s mean. But whales in this context is perfectly legitimate.
Ok I was out of line a bit there, sorry about that.
I always thought whales was a term for someone with loads of money but no idea what they’re throwing money at, but I guess that’s a misinterpretation.
I’m not happy with the general sentiment (from some people) that people from China can’t be collectors like you and me and/or don’t belong in the hobby in the same way as us, but I was too quick to jump to conclusions here.
I’m sure there are but they won’t be bidding on the items I’m referring to.
I know some are but a lot are still comparable to English set cards which is understandable for current demographics, but as I am speculating could change a lot in the future.
It seems everyone (collectors) defaults back to Japanese even if they have cards printed in their own language which I suppose makes sense.
Then again, I think some have also shared that the Chinese market also likes waifus so things like Lillie and Acerola EBD which are promos/set cards there also have high prices.
Either way, not like I’m going to be getting the Masked Royal or the Team Rocket promos so all of these extra expensive cards (EBD promos, Lillie etc) are less attractive to me at those kinds of prices.
Thats disheartening to hear. Maybe ill get lucky but besides the lotteries I haven’t found any other good options to purchase at MSRP. And even the lotteries are a long shot imo
Would you pay €120 for this? Trying to get a complete set of Awakening Legends in NM-MT condition, and this is the best one I can find on the European market:
The only flaws I can see is a couple of small scratches on the holofoil and tiny bits of whitening on the back. There’s some wiggle-room on the price, but I doubt I’ll get it for less than €110($120). Also note that I’m in Europe, so this would be like paying ~$100+VAT on the Japanese or NA market.
Mint PSA 9 copies sell for ~$100 (~€92) in North America. So if you bought a PSA 9 from the U.S. and shipped it to your country, would it be less than this raw copy?
If not, I think this copy looks quite nice. Would be worth asking for €110, though.
Hmm… im gonna go under for SR, over for SAR. Granted, the higher the SAR goes, it may pull up the SR if people choose to go for that bc they cant afford the SAR
Perfect example showing manipulation of a market isn’t permanent unless demand and interest is there for the card at the new price. This card was $100 on release day, and that only lasted one day since card shops put a $300 buylist price on it. Now it’s well under $100 and falling. People are being patient and calling BS when the market price doesn’t pass the “gut check” feeling of a card price.
I feel bad for people cought up with FOMO and purchased it at the peak. I sincerely hope that people have bit more patience with widely distributed cards like these and also catch on to the practices by the card shops, listing them at absurd prices.
ive been wanting to buy a buy a sealed cp3 booster box. shops in japan have them at better prices than ebay, but shops have been fooled many times and have bought then resold tampered with product to customers. resealing is getting much more refined and practically perfected in some cases.
how do people go about buying older JP pokemon booster boxes? I feel like, sometimes, the only way to really tell is by opening the product which i dont want to necessarily have to do, and that could also void any return policy.
I haven’t checked today but the last time I looked there were no Pokémon card packs or boxes available to purchase including “unpopular” sets like Pokémon Go which have generally been in stock since release.
