its sold multiple times ~500-1000 for the english the past few years. the highest was 2250 before this. on a side note it seems like all the psa 10 full arts are being cleared out around this era i had a bunch sell thru psa and i pretty much made up the price

They seem confused lol. Personally I don’t care what the cert number is as long as the card fits the grade and I’m okay with the condition of the card. I don’t see the point in what the cert number starts with to command a premium. I might be in the minority with that.

i think people are just saying whatever crap they feel like on social media regarding the pokemon market either thru ignorance or some kind of manipulation tactic

:rofl::rofl: yeah I have a great time reading comments. Reddit is the best if you need a good laugh

Cert numbers determining purchasing decisions are generally a newer-collector-only problem, imo. That
or someone with major money that jumped into the hobby recently and has a hard-on for new cert numbers for the extra social media clout factor when they post their card, as if it’s supposed to have an aura of superiority around it for not being an “old cert.”

Meanwhile
many of us that have had thousands of PSA slabs go through our hands from 1xxxxx and 2xxxxxx to getting back 10xxxxxxx PSA 10s with dings on them
we already know the cert number is meaningless and will not pay for that number specifically.

Otherwise, what exactly is the point of collecting/buying ANY graded card today?

Death, taxes
and PSA continually increasing the cert number count. Those are all certainties.

If people feel like their card cert will eventually be invalidated by a higher number cert then they should get off the ride now and stick to binders, lol.

I agree with everything you said. Those collectors seem to be in the same boat as the ones saying PSA is pop controlling lol. Imagine paying 20-30% more bc of the cert number smh

guess these “new collectors” aint ever gonna touch something like 1st ed base holos since psa 10 dont exist for them in “new certs” either that or gamble their way thru box breaks without realizing that even if they get the best pulls theyll never get a psa 10

This already happens quite a bit, especially with the higher end/lower pop Gold Stars
I pretty much take whatever the PSA 10 pops of every Gold Star is and subtract 5-10 because I know people have cracked out 10s (insane as it is) to try and cross to either of the Beckett Pristine labels or CGC Pristine. I assume these people aren’t actually taking the time to send these labels to PSA to get them removed from the registry/pop report. I could be wrong though.

A PSA 10 isn’t enough for people with more money than sense, their grails have to be special-er, whether that means “newer cert” or a “Pristine” grade that is assumed to be “even Gem Mint-ier” than PSA’s best grade.

It’s the same as those people (no offense) that pay for the “Mike Baker Authenticated” Diamond stickers they slap on grails, cause
you know
you gotta authenticate the authenticated item with yet another third party subjective authentication service, just in case
there’s an Xzibit “Yo dawg I heard” meme in here somewhere.

Again, pardon my assumption-making but the people who just enjoy collecting generally don’t do this stuff, this almost always seems to be attributed to people that need additional validation/attention that go through all these extra hoops (would we all do it too if we had that much eff you money? Who knows, I wouldn’t personally).

The craziest thing I’ve seen yet with the Gold Stars is the couple that cracked all the CGC pristine copies to grade at TAG. The logic behind doing that is non-existent. It’s already been graded Pristine 10 what’s the point of sending it to TAG besides the reasons you listed.

Lol, I know exactly what you’re referencing but only from what i’ve heard via third parties and what they have publicly posted. But yeah. They are direct investors in TAG, so every motivation was there to do that.

Before that though
how do you think those Gold Stars ended up in CGC Pristine slabs, as in
where did they come from? You guessed it
mostly 2xx cert PSA 10s. A lot of them.

Without being accusatory or making too many assumptions, and again only going off of what i’ve heard, there were likely zero downsides to crossgrading CGC Pristines to TAG 10s from a monetary standpoint
if someone felt comfortable crossing one way, i’m sure they’d have zero issues crossing back if/when it was needed. Make of that what you will.

Not finishing my English EX Team Rocket Returns set is going to bite me

I’m in the same boat. Just (most of) the ex cards and the two secret rares left, but I’m not willing to pay these inflated prices.

Thankfully I have most of the heavy hitters, but I need PSA 9s of Rocket’s Scyther ex ($600), Hitmonchan ($500), Sneasel ($300), and Entei ($600). EX wasn’t supposed to go up in this boom!!

I only have Suicune ex, so it’s going to be a slog getting the rest. :sob:

Luckily, I have all of the gold stars and reverse foils in PSA 9 or PSA 10. I was the fortunate bidder who purchased this lot from Fanatics Collect almost two years ago.

Worked out to be ~$40 per PSA 9 reverse foil. I think one card was a PSA 8 and a few were PSA 10s. Definitely one of my best purchases because it saved me so much effort, time, and (now) money.
