The Giant English Market Thread

Lol yes, it is very nice! I asked the question cause i was just thinking of how much its grown on me. I used to prefer the cosmos foil.

So good! :exploding_head:

I sometimes think about how interesting it would be to see a Cosmos and a Galaxy version of every Base-Destiny holo just to compare, I’m sure I would prefer Cosmos on some and Galaxy on others.

That old, cloudy galaxy pops in a way like no other, the foil rewards you for tilting the card around and staring into its depths.

I guess u can kinda do that with the japanese vs english up to rocket. I completely agree, the galaxy foil has a certain depth to it… it almost looks 3D in a weird way when you tilt it.

Just picked up a PSA 9 No Symbol Jungle for Pinsir for $90 in a Buy It Now.

I know it isn’t Snorlax or one of the Eeveelutions, but it’s still crazy for a PSA 9 No Symbol Jungle holo to be that low. I don’t even care if it’s Venomoth or Electrode; anything under $100 for these cards is insane value.

Whenever I see something about No Symbol I go take a look at Gem Mint’s videos to hear the prices he use to pay.

I cry everytime.

Ive written about this before but now its actually hit.

The USD has absoultely pulverised nearly every other currency. The value of my collection has gone up 15% due to just exchange rates but with this said anything i want to buy is also 15% more expenses (before any exchange fees).

So what does it mean? We’ll see a lot less international buyers (due to the increase cost) and more international sellers (capitalise on increase value). An extended downturn in the market due to the shift in demand and supply. Though it does mean buying from japan becomes cheaper.

I dont see the usd being this strong long term.

Fun times.

Yeah, it’s been expensive for me since I’m buying with Swedish Krona (SEK).

If you’re not American you’re playing the game on Hard Mode. Sadly there are no achievements for playing on higher difficulties.

Not if your selling cards to the US, great prices!

I am definitely not buying in the US for the foreseeable future after 99% of my purchases over the last year were from American eBay sellers. That said, given I am in the UK, I am grateful my most valuable cards are held by PWCC right now

If it makes you guys feel any better, financial markets are rough here too. The stock market is brutal right now. My portfolio is fire red.

A cost i didnt quite factor in to my budget this year was import and shipping costs into Canada. After i got slaughtered by that, ive been trying to buy within Canada where possible. Thankfully, im still securing the dub on yen conversion

Import tax is extremely high when trying to bring anything into this country. There’s some cards I want in the $4,000-$5,000 range that I can’t justify purchasing because import tax ends up being an additional $1,000.

I’ve been buying from local sellers more these days, especially after Ebay added sales tax for purchases made within Canada. The market is definitely smaller here, and unfortunately you get a lot of Canadian sellers overpricing stuff or even factoring in import tax into their final price because they know buyers have limited options.

So frustrating… i bought several cards for good prices and ended up paying $150+ in imports and taxes and now theres sales tax on top of that, its insane. I had to find a canadian seller for singles but im still not sure about slabs. May just have to leave them in the vault for now sadly

My USD based purchases have gone way down because of the exchange rate as well. I’m only buying low value cards because it’s a massive exchange rate tax on top of any potential duties or fees when it crosses the border. Instead, I have mainly been buying locally or within my country to avoid the brutal exchange rate. I actually sold around $4000 worth of cards recently, and the exchange rate alone made me 20% on them, lol. Just brutal.

In addition, I have been adding to my long-term stock positions that are discounted until the currency becomes more favourable again for buying cards. Thankfully I only own 2 stocks, so not hard to deal with.

Is there a way to see POP report over time? I’m looking to buy ex cards as well as some gold stars and I’m just curious on if the number of these cards graded have sky rocketed the past couple years.

Pokemonprice.com has a graph of the pop report over time, its just a tab on the main price graph

3 posts were split to a new topic: Investing in vintage vs modern

I’m surprised at how irrational the market remains on modern products/certain singles whilst interest has basically dried up on 20+ year old high grade WOTC holos etc

I know PSA 8/9 1st edition WOTC holos aren’t exactly rare but compared to how many Charizard UPCs or Evolving Skies booster boxes there are and could be printed over the next year it seems crazy that everyone is chasing them well over RRP
