Yeah, I don’t get the rationale for doing it. It’s just begging for an ‘item not as described’ case lol. It’s pretty common, though, for whatever reason.

I’ll give the seller the benefit of the doubt and say it was probably an accident.

Recently, I listed a bunch of PSA 7 holos and there was one PSA 6 that I forgot I had. I listed it as a PSA 7 until someone messaged me about it asking if it was a 6 or a 7. It was a complete typo on my part, so I can see how it would happen once in a while if you’re listing a ton of cards.

That seller also has 100 percent feedback with a decent amount of feedback ratings, so I bet it wasn’t intentional on their part.

I’d bet it also happens thanks to eBay’s “Sell one like this” feature that just clones a listing. If you forgot to change it to a 9 from a 10 I’d give ya a pass

I won an auction for a PSA 9 Pichu recently where the seller had listed it as an 8. I messaged them to check and they left it up, so I won with the only bid.

I got lucky with a Expedition Skarmory PSA 8 that was listed as a reverse Holo but was the regular Holo with a swirl. Ended up being Flexgods from YouTube. Messaged them on Instagram and got it for $60 shipped. Just been looking for value buys and usually waiting on auctions to come up for random things I’m looking for.

Liked for the deal as well as your sick Houndour profile header.

Has the seller shipped yet? I’d be biting my nails that they were going to cancel any second

Also meant to ask – which Pichu? Love a good Pichu

They did indeed ship and I received it a couple of weeks ago! It’s this one (DP-P 112):

It was nail-biting but luckily a good news story this time. Fair play to the seller for following through…

I took the Houndour photo with my 5 year old pixel 2, pretty pleased with how it came out!

Edit: I should probably mention that it was a starting bid of £75 (~$90) - still a great deal as far as I’m concerned.

Damn, those Google phones can take some good closeups.

What’s the story with that promo? They did that Pichu art dirty in Pop 3, kind of a snooze in comparison

ACTUALLY, I disagree. The cards from POP series 9 were part of a “Collection Challenge” in Japan. In English they did something unusually coherent for English and kept them together in a set. The art from Harada depicts a whole islandy-theme where the Pokemon were clearly drawn in one image and individually cropped for the each card (similar to the JR rally 2001 promos).

So while the Pichu on it’s own is a bit bland, it is great in the context of the rest of them!

You know, the second I hit “reply” it occurred to me that my smooth brain was literally just thinking “shiny better”

In the context of all the other cards you’re absolutely right – I love that Pikachu and Raichu especially. I think the Buizel and Croagunk could have benefited from some water in the scene, though!

It’s ok, I understand. Either way, the important one got the holo treatment:

I’m a PSA 9 English collector but I stumbled across this Mysterious mountains set all pack fresh for $1800 and Split earth for $1600 which seems like a great deal. What do you guys think?

idk why, but for some reason Japanese WotC just doesn’t do it for me. Japanese EX Series looks nearly as good as English EX Series, imo, but I just much prefer the aesthetics of English WotC over Japanese WotC. I’m always impressed by how nice Japanese gold stars look (just as good as English ones), but Japanese WotC just falls flat for me. Tough for me to articulate why, but the value gap between English and Japanese WotC seems to suggest that others might feel the same way I do.

Does seem like a good deal, for someone who’s looking. Are they clean? Is this for a collection, or for grading?

But like @zorloth , I also don’t feel drawn to JP eReaders… Not sure why, especially since JP WotC Is normally My JAM!

Seems a little on the high end, but there is something to be said about paying extra for a complete, pack fresh, set.

Ya I just started doing my research more and luckily I didn’t grab them yet or anything. I was thinking roughly $100 a Holo seemed cheap. But I got looking at completed listings for PSA 9s. Once I take selling and grading fees out some cards I’ll be in the negative in a PSA 9. Basically anything that’s not a popular Pokemon. Ones like magneton are like $30. And what if any get 8s. The only way I end up with more value then I paid is if the bigger ones get 10s. And I was going to keep for my personal collection but at first I was thinking there is so much value. There’s still big English cards I need. Plus it seems I could grab the Japanese Holo 9s for cheaper then the $1800 if I just wait for auctions if I really want mysterious mountains. Beautiful cards but I’m a English collector. Ideally if I’m spending $1800 before grading or knowing what they will get I’d like to have close to $3000-$4000 worth of cards if they came back as 9s. I don’t think even if they all got 10s would it equal close to that. About to do some more research and math.

Any other options? Assuming pack fresh mint condition. Edit: Also as many of you guys know I already have English PSA 9 Skyridge

It sounds like you may have talked yourself out of this one.

I don’t think there is a “right” answer here, as it comes down to personal preference and risk tolerance. Some prefer to grade each and every card in their collection. Some prefer to wait for the right moment to pick up graded cards.

Personally, I would prefer to slowly collect the graded cards from the open market rather than assuming that I will hit the mark with PSA. Who knows, “pack fresh” can mean very different things to buyers and sellers.

Very true ya I normally just buy graded cards. But I don’t know if it’s just me but I can’t seem to justify the price or risk of buying many ungraded 1st edition Wotc cards. Many are priced at PSA 8 plus prices already and that’s before grading cost etc. But even if I stumbled across a mint Wotc collection I’d be so skeptical why the other person didn’t grade them. So on the rare occasions I find something I tend to talk myself out of it. As far as graded cards I can’t help but constantly keep buying adding to my collection

nice value for any Komiya fans - considering it is a reverse holo rare.

If you’re looking for another mortgage…
