most people probably didn’t even think that it would warrant a large price. the 1000$+ sales drew out all the rest. then we saw the brick of them. who knows how many there could be
I know of a couple 9s that sold for $2000 last year.
And there were also some ungraded mint ones on Yj last year for a little over $1000 each… which I believe you purchased?
Just depends I guess on who’s buying it and how much they want it.
Who’s buying it, which market you’re on, if it’s graded are all factors. You’re right, but if someone is on the selling end it’s not too far fetched to think you can get more out of a mint mint mint one. Would I buy the one on eBay, no. Could I see it selling, yeah.
Keep in mind cards of this rarity/demand will have a range. Also, as @cullers mentioned, the markets and grade are significant factors. I know 2 PSA 10 copies that both sold over 5k. One closer to 10k than 5k.
The newest trophy card is up on ebay. Looks like the same photo as the one on JP yahoo but its going for $5,382.00 as opposed to $2183. Is this guy trying to sell a card he doesn’t even own?
This unfortunately occurs on occasion. Typically someone from Japan will list an ebay auction and if they receive a high enough offer, they will buy the card from Japan and ship to the ebay buyer.
@funmonkey54 said it all. Yes it’s real, yes it’s rare, no it’s not worth nearly that much.
Ungraded M/NM is worth about 100-150 USD. If I’d send my copy to PSA I’m about 95% sure it will get a 10 as well, since I can see no flaw whatsoever on my copy. Even if it would be a POP1 PSA10 it wouldn’t be worth that much (and that seller even lowered his price, I’ve come across it a lot of times over the past halve year and it used to be 15k instead of 8k).
The other two Sample Pikachus (one; two) are worth a lot more than 100-150 USD, mainly because one of them was never released to the public (second one), and the other only has a few copies floating around. But I don’t think they’re worth 8k either, probably more in the 1-5k range. I’d love to have both of them in my collection one day, though.
