honestly in my opinion that picture should immediately have people backing off those things and taking their time to buy them. more and more will come out.
My gut was talking loud on this one being speculative, but I didnāt want to post and deter anyone who really wanted the card. Everyone at some point in any hobby will pay a premium for something they really want. I do it multiple times a year.
Unfortunately, Iām one of the people who bought it way too expensive compared to those sold at the moment. I bought the third one that popped up, after I lost the first one that was sold for 131k Japanese Yen, and the second because it was sold within two hours (for 95k). In the end I won the third one that ended at 77k Japanese Yen. With an additional 12k Japanese Yen as middleman service, 25 USD shipping, and 170 euro import fees, I paid a total of roughly 975 USD.
When the end of this third one was nearing, there were already five others available, which also all sold for 70k-90k Japanese Yen within the next two weeks. And now there are still quite a few unsold ones available for 45k-70k.
That all being said, I completely agree with Charlie. Sometimes I pre-order a certain item that will soon be released for, letās say as example, 40 USD. Then a few weeks later it has been released, and about 3-4 weeks after that again the prices has dropped to 20 USD instead. So I could have waited 7-8 weeks before buying it to get it at halve price.
Other times however I buy a pretty expensive item, and then Iām very glad I did because it was and is the only one available for sale in a very long time.
Sometimes a high selling-price on a well-known website lures other sellers, like the YOU Wagon Pikachu in this case, and sometimes you are lucky to take your chance.
Everyone should decide for themselves whether itās worth it for you to take a gamble. I personally love the artwork of this YOU Wagon Pikachu, and as a Pikachu collector I couldnāt let this opportunity pass. I will be honest, Iām glad I lost that first auction that ended at 131k, because 77k is quite a bit cheaper in comparison. Yes, the 50k that is currently for sale is even cheaper, and this bulk of 50 will definitely cause the price to drop even more⦠But, mine has almost arrived. I got it now and can leave further developments regarding the prices and supply & demand behind me. I havenāt bought it as investment, I bought it for my collection and own joy. My collection motto isnāt āI only have to buy it once, then I can enjoy it for the rest of my lifeā for nothing. (DISCLAIMER: Bad motto if you collect a lot and donāt want to get poorā¦)
The 50k is more expensive or as expensive as the bulk 50. I saw a post of people wanting to split it. That auction is for 1 card with 4 cards for sale. The min bid is the same as the buyout per card of the bulk lot.
I think itās primarily due to itās difficult to find the early tins like that sealed. Granted I donāt know how many actually sell at or near that price. But they are rather rare now to find sealed. The price of the packs inside is only one factor in the value.
