Gem Pack 3. are crushing everyday
The following are today’s (October 2nd) estimated prices in the mainland:
Gengar: $150
Meowth: $45
Cubone: $48
Ceruledge: $12
Chandelure: $5
These prices are estimates. I would only pay up to 30–50% more than the listed prices. Avoid buying them for double the cost or more, particularly the most expensive items.
I collect gengar cards and this is the best physical card this pokemon ever had.
Unlike what people say, I think that Gengar is not that much of a “shill“ (how they call these types of pokemon… like Charizard or Umbreon/etc.) pokemon.
For example we never had any actual Gengar chase card during whole Sword and Shield era. All he had is that Gigantamax gimmick card. Gigantamax gengar is not a “Gengar“ card. It’s like you want to get Charizard and i’m giving you Charizard Y.
The only sw/sh card he had was the Lost Origin trainer gallery. And it’s just a normal card with Gengar sitting with mouth half open and some characters around him.
All he had during Scarlet and Violet era is Full Art when he had an extremely generic image on a simple background. The other card was a trainer card with Half-Gengar at the bottom right corner. (it genuinely made me laugh - i’m calling it Mike Wasowski Gengar card because Gengar being blocked by some text at the bottom because the center of attention is the other person)
Now he’s (i assume) going to have a Mega-gimmick card somewhere in 2026.
Gengar didn’t have any classic gengar chase cards without any humans on his card for a long while. No huge tongue no gimmick forms, no Pikachu, etc. Just Gengar with a classic gengar color. All we have is semi-vintage EX/full art cards or vintage holos.
THIS is the card i’ve been wanting for so many years. I never felt so excited for a chase card during this hobby, maybe with the exception of ST Lugia and LO Giratina. Finally an awesome looking Gengar Card!
PS:
I do wish the atmosphere was a bit more spooky. Pokemon TCG Pocket card is still the best - it is _the_ definitive Gengar card - everything is perfect here - the natural habitat, creepy situation and colors:
In my opinion, Gengar doesn’t look like Pokemon Company makes him fit in the S-tier lineup next to Umbreon Charizard and others where this pokemon can just freely use his standart look and fit in. I feel like Gengar being used as a backup Pokémon, constantly using its gimmick forms and providing chase cards with classic look for another market or product.
With Mega Gengar appearing in Mega Evolution block we not gonna see “just a normal classic Gengar“ for a long time until it will be finished.
When was the last time? Surely not during sw/sh or s/v. This card is the best physical Gengar card we have had in so many years.
I did mention it in my post. But there is a better gengar card in Chinese language finally, and it appeared so quickly after the Pikachu one which is also good.
It seems like Chinese cards has the best modern gengar cards at this moment. I don’t even know when we will get one in english. Probably years later because following ~1+ years Gengar chase slots will be taken by Mega-Gengar form.
It was very close last year, but because Scarlet & Violet focuses on the newest Pokémon early on like every era its timing was unfortunate. That I think is why the special illustrations moved over to Gastly and a Supporter
I actually can’t believe we moved into a new block (Mega) and TPC still did not give every ex a SAR which they decided to do in Pocket after just 2 sets. Waiting for B block to drop with all Megas getting SARs whilst physical still picks and chooses what to abandon.
With the move to guarantee Trainer SRs don’t steal a spot as UR or SR and the reduction of # of ex cards per set, it should’ve been a no brainer but alas. It would also be perfect for new gen sets to both have guaranteed SARs of new Pokemon and returning Pokemon to appeal to a wider audience (not that it needs to I suppose).
But yeah, even new generation sets have hundreds of old and popular Pokemon to choose from that they ignore that could easily be given SARs to balance all the spotlight on the new. I bet we still have to pick and choose in Gen 10 though and it does look like Gen 9 will end without finishing the Gen 9 ARs.
Outside of Black Bolt & White Flare, yeah they are trying to stay conservative with SARs being the main chase in sets. In Pocket, they can do whatever they like
Yes, CCIC is (China Certification & Inspection Group, do not ask me why is not CCIG ) a grading company run by the government itself. It has exploded in popularity in the last year. The perceived backing by the Chinese government is cited as a reason for its growing influence, especially for the high penalties associated with counterfeiting its slabs. Previously, everyone in China used CCG, but they have lost basically all the business. As you can see, CCIC’s grade quantities are really competitive versus PSA. My strategy is buying a 10 and cracking it to submit to PSA. So far, CCIC’s “normal” 10s have not disappointed me; I do not see any big flaw that I personally would not think is PSA 10 worthy (e.g., a white dot or a printline). So yes is a brainless play, just find it , well centered, for cheap and be careful when cracking.
From a personal perspective, it is good. From a financial perspective, buying CCIC gold is a bad choice; they are way harder to get but way cheaper than PSA.
Is there a good marketplace for Chinese cards? I’m trying to complete Scarlet Violet 151 in T-Chinese, but I’m having a hard time finding places to buy singles. Thank you in advance!
Ruten, Shopee Taiwan, Carousell HK etc. for buying from private people, upon a new search there are also TCG stores like Cardland, Players Club and Bravesoulcard in Hong Kong.
Disgusting. There is clearly some Umbreon discrimination going on in that art. Am I to accept that Umbreon should be represented by some dark blue-green color? I will not.
Buy 2-5 copies per day until the price reaches $20 (it is currently $6 each). Then, purchase 1-2 copies per day until the price reaches $50.
Wait three months. If the price decreases, continue to buy 1 copy per day until the price hits $50 again, and wait another three months.
Once the price stabilizes, even if it’s at a higher level, continue buying 1 copy per day, or perhaps at that point, 1 copy every 2–3 days or once per week.
Out of the copies purchased, grade only the Gem Mint ones.
