Hey everyone! I just wanted to share this recent purchase The other day I was on eBay on Scott’s page and saw this old postcard. Within seconds, it pulled me in; eventually leading to a purchase. I messaged Scott and explained how grateful I was for having it available on his site and we briefly talked about his future milestones with completing an Alpha set-binder for Magic The Gathering. While I primarily collect high-end MtG (but have improved my position in Pokemon within the last 2 years), there’s just something so calming, relaxing, and awe-inspiring about this art. It transports me back to being a kid in the late 90s and whenever I look at it I just feel the nostalgia hit like a wave.
Thank you smpratte for giving me the chance to find and purchase this gem. I still cant get over its beauty. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do! Cheers!
Ive purchases like 30 fukuyama postcards in the last week. I love them… showed them to a friend and within seconds he bought some himself. If anyone says they like such and such card for the art, ill jusy mention fukuyama post cards and let the rest happen
And congrats @spacemansr ! Indeed a great piece of art. It kinda looks like the Rhydon is the teacher, and all the other Pokémon are kids on an astronomy field trip, since the Rhydon seems to explain something to the Marill and Ratatta. That’s just my interpretation based on the artwork, though.
Love that some of the Pokémon are just chilling (Snorlax, Slowpoke, Weedle), some are looking with telescopes or binoculars (Chansey, Ekans, Krabby), some are pointing to the sky (Pikachu, Staryu), and the Weepinbell is just awestruck.
Thanks for sharing!
These Keiko Fukuyama postcards are fantastic. The entire set has great artwork. I’m bias in saying that the 2000 set is my favourite as they all focus on the Pichu Brothers.
It’s great that these are still as affordable as they are, I picked up 8 of the 1999 postcards including this one recently from Mercari for the equivalent of $3 lol - I guess they must have printed tens of thousands of these back in the day. I typically pay around $10 for more modern postcards with Pichu on, so at ~$0.40 each I felt like I was robbing the guy.
These post cards are some of my favorite Pokémon art! The artist also did Southern Island. They really bring the Pokémon to life, while capturing that 90s hand drawn style.
