I was wondering why the Hoenn Gold Stars in this set seem off?
Torchic looks like a normal shiny, but Mudkip (shiny should be pink) and Treecko (shiny should be turquoise) look like their normal counterparts.
Just wanted to know the history behind this!
Ah you’re right, didn’t catch that. Now that I look more closely he does resemble his shiny form, I was just imagining a brighter turquoise treecko for some reason.
I think the artist was pretty clever with Mudkip. Note that its belly and tailfin are clearly shiny. Sunlight + underwater filters out reds, and since shiny Mudkip is magenta/purplish (red + blue), subtracting red leaves it with a dark blue.
This is actually something I haven’t thought of before, I’ve noticed difference between tail/belly compared to regular Mudkip but wanted to believe there’s some reason they left the body as blue.
That totally makes sense and gives me a whole new perspective on it. If it’s true then they put A LOT more time and research into the design of gold stars than I first imagined. These details definitely make me appreciate gold stars even more.
