I was thinking of picking up the gold energies from the scarlet and violet Japanese sets for a page of my binder and just noticed they were also printed throughout sword and shield.
Any points to consider one variation over the other? I.e. print quality, scarcity, pricing.
Also, is there a chance of a colorless energy coming out for SV?
TPC started releasing Gold Energies (mainly UR Energies) since SM so you might also want to check those as well.
TBH most people won’t hoard Gold Energies for the sake of collecting since there are other Energy cards that are more appealing or worth collecting. In fact, the Gold Energies worth collecting the most are from the XY BREAK Golden Present Campaign (which are the only 2 Energies getting the Golden XY layout):
People who hoard Gold Energies the most are players who build their decks with high-rarity cards, so the prices of Gold Energies fluctuate a lot based on the archetypes in the current rotation. For example, if Water is represented by the most popular deck in Standard, you should expect Gold Water Energies to go up.
As for generations, older generations always cost higher than recent generations of the same type since they are out of print.
Possible, we’ll have to wait until all the SV sets were released to find out.
Definitely, the hgss energies are great as are any holo energies. I just thought the gold/textured ones were cool too.
I should’ve realised about the deck building aspect - I kept wondering why most are under £10 except for water and psychic which cost twice as much on average. (The SV cards at least).
