Swolepoke's TOP 10 Coffee Spots For Worlds 2025 @ Anaheim

Swolepoke's TOP Coffee Spots for Worlds 2025

Hello Everyone!
Being the coffee enthusiast (snob) that I am, I thought my fellow coffee-loving diehards on the forum might enjoy knowing where some of the best coffee spots are located for Worlds 2025 in Anahiem, California!

Now keep in mind, a majority of these are located in the heart of Southern California, so only some of them could be a “quick and easy pick up” before going to the world championship. No judging here, but stick to Starbucks if you want or need the ease and convience. The coffee shops on my list are spots I would encourage you to go, relax, sit for a bit and enjoy a great cup of coffee. All these locations are great to either go alone with your thoughts, with a book, or with friends and family.

  1. Bear Coast Coffee
One of the bigger coffee names around here, Bear Coast Coffee is a great, morning-of, spot to hit up when heading to the beaches. Like everyone on this list, they do a lot of their own roasting, which is a big W in my book. Not only that, they make all sauces and flavorings in-house. When a company puts that extra effort into all aspects of their business, you know it’s a good one.

Location:
1391 S Coast Hwy Unit A, Laguna Beach, CA 92651

  1. Bodhi Leaf Coffee Traders | Importer, Roaster, Coffee Bar
Slowly becoming a chain within California, this is the coffee roaster that opened my eyes to the world of (actual) good coffee. Now don’t be fooled by this being ranked 9th on the list. The coffee here is great, I just think over the years they’ve lost that “special something” due to the growth. None the less, I HIGHLY encourage you to make the trip here over Starbucks one morning, to have your eyes opened like mine once were.

Location:
428 W Katella Ave suite b, Orange, CA 92867 (Main Headquarters)
1035 N Tustin Ave, Anaheim, CA 92807

  1. Lion & Lamb Coffee Roaster
Located inside the office space of a church, this coffee shop not only creates the perfect “studying” vibe, but also offers a fantastic cup of Joe, as well as some tasty treats! I would highly recommend this location as a place to read, study or for a meet up with a friend. They’re located 10 minutes away from Newport Beach, so it’s a great place to stop by if you’re headed to the beach!

Location:
3186 Pullman St, Costa Mesa, CA 92626

  1. Work In Progress
“It’s a vibe”, is the best way I can describe this coffee shop and the surrounding area. Located in the middle of tons of breweries, small little food joints and a mini mall known as “The Camp”. This is a great spot for that afternoon pick me up after leaving the beach or after a late lunch. This location is even closer to the beach than the place listed before. It’s a newer spot, but already has grown fast in popularity.

Location:
2944 Randolph Av # 1, Costa Mesa, CA 92626

  1. Hidden House Coffee
As the name implies, this coffee shop literally started down in San Juan Capistrano (which is a great spot to visit and see some Californian history), in a tiny little home off the beaten path. One of the earliest “specialty coffee shops” to open here in SoCal, they have stood the test of time for over a decade, because of having great service and even better coffee. I would highly recommend the San Juan location and making an afternoon out of it, since the surrounding area has plenty to see and do.

Location:
31791 Los Rios St, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675 (Original Location)
511 E Santa Ana Blvd, Santa Ana, CA 92701 (Closest to Anaheim and 20 mins from the beach)

  1. Maméya Coffee Roasters
Now this spot if for all my DIE HARD COFFEE people. Mameya coffee is the most recent specialty coffee spot to open in Orange County. They come all the way from Kobe, Japan and bring not only delicous coffee, but a fun and unique experience within their shop. At this location, they give you the ability to pick your own beans and have them roasted there on the spot, however you like! While the menu is pretty limited, you will not be disappointed with the drinks they serve.

Location:
27931 La Paz Rd E, Laguna Niguel, CA 92677 (Huge Huge trek from Anaheim FYI.)

  1. White Sparrow
Now we’re getting into a whole other tier of good coffee and the craft that is making a good cup of coffee. Located in Old Tustin, which is another great location to spend an afternoon, White Sparrow has been known to craft some of the most unqiue and tastiness cups of coffee, that I’ve ever had. If you are a latte person, I don’t just recommend that you order their “Love On The Weekend” latte, I insist. This location is about 15 minutes away from Anahiem.

Location:
100 W Main St #3, Tustin, CA 92780

  1. Hopper & Burr
Located in a Santa Anae, considered to be the “sore thumb” of Orange County, Hopper & Burr is a coffee shop that brings in a high level of sophistication. They offer above excpetional coffee and bring a fresh spin on old favorites, while at the same time reinventing and creating some of the most special coffee drinks. As I have said previously, the craft that is coffee is taken very seriously here and goes to another level compared to most coffee places.

Location:
202 W 4th St, Santa Ana, CA 92701

  1. Golden Lantern Coffee Roasters
EDIT: Golden Lantern is back open and fully up and running!
Golden Lantern is a hole in the wall that will blow your socks off with D E L I C I O U S coffee. The owner, Matt, is a man who has a fiery passion for his craft. He lives and breathes this, not just on a daily basis, but with every second of his life and it really shows with what he has to offer. I would highly recommend you follow their socials and keep an eye out for any pop up shop events that they be doing while you’re in town. It is worth the trek, whereever they may be at that point in time.

Location:
26072 Merit Cir Ste 101 Laguna Hills, CA 92653

  1. Stereoscope Coffee
The pièce de résistance. This coffee shop hits every nail on the head almost perfectly. The coffee, delicious. The food, delectable. The atmosphere, inviting and charming. Many friends I have brought here have left saying almost the exact same thing. “Best latte I’ve ever had”. While in town, this is the spot that comes with one of my highest recommendations. But be warned, everything here is pretty pricey, even for California. The parking situation is a structure across the street, which can be annoying at times. Lastly, you may be waiting a decent amount of time to order and get your order, depending on how busy it is. All that aside, please don’t let those stop you from trying this place out. I promise you won’t regret it.

Location:
4542 Beach Blvd, Buena Park, CA 90621 (Closest to Worlds)
100 Bayview Cir Suite 1200, Newport Beach, CA 92660 (MY favorite spot and 10 minutes from the beach)

A good cup of coffee can completely change everything for you. What I mean is we live in a society where we are all served a mixed bag of burnt beans that get turned into burnt coffee, and then are told that’s what “good” coffee taste like. My hope for anyone reading this, would be you go to one of these place and have a cup of coffee that you can actually taste. Great coffee can have flavor notes as complex as wine does. California is a hard to beat place when it comes to coffee, so while visiting, I hope and encourage you all to explore with your taste buds and enjoy! Even all you Starbucks, Dunkin Doughnut, Keurig, lovers!

See you all at Worlds 2025 and please let me know if any of you try these places before then or while you’re in town then!

Wonderful write up with great suggestions. I don’t drink coffee myself but have been to half those locations with others in the past and you are spot on with your descriptions. Wish I did enjoy coffee as it always smells wonderful and it is something with so much detail and variability that comes out through meticulous care.

Now can we get a restaurant review list :joy:.

I plan on doing that next!

I am not the guy for that

But Bohdi Leaf, on this list, is also a tea shop! That’s part of their origin story! It’s worth checking out possibly!

This is what I love to see :pray:t3: I’ve been to California many times and have only been able to try Bear Coast from this list. I hope to hit up as many of these as I can next August! :sunglasses: Thanks dude

@swolepoke Thanks for sharing all this! It’s really cool to see someone else so into coffee!

Fun fact about me, I do sensory (taste testing) for a living and coffee is one of the areas I do work in. While I’m not a formally trained Q-Grader, I do have some training for sensory evaluations for coffee. One of the tools my company uses is this flavor wheel: Interactive Coffee Taster's Flavor Wheel

For those of you who just like coffee, but would like to identify what specifically it is your tasting, this is very user friendly. Starting from the core of the wheel, you should find a root flavor profile. Then moving outward you can find “notes” within the primary flavor profile. It’s a lot of fun to train your taste buds to find all the special little hidden surprises in a really good cup of coffee.

BUMPING with another coffee shop for everyone to check out while in town!

See you all in two months!

Hola Adios
Located in Costa Mesa and Tustin—both conveniently close to Worlds—Hola Adios serves up not only excellent coffee but also some seriously delicious breakfast options. While I love stopping by for the coffee, the real standout is their freshly baked biscuits, made daily and totally worth the visit. If you’re after that ideal combo of a morning pick-me-up and something hearty to hold you over until lunch, this place hits the mark. Little bonus: the Costa Mesa location is just about 10 minutes from Newport Beach, making it perfect if you want to turn your coffee run into a full day out at the beach.

I vote for a guided tour with tour guide @swolepoke to give us all the best coffee recommendations.

Honestly if people would be interested, I can schedule an in-depth coffee cupping class.

This is a class similar to a wine tasting, where you sit down with the coffee roaster and explore different beans from different regions around the world. They help you envision the flavor notes and pick up the differences in light, medium and dark roast.

Honestly this sort of class is what really opened my eyes to coffee.

I would need around 5-7 people for it and it would be maybe around or near $100 a person?

  • I’m interested in a coffee cupping.
  • I’m not interested in a coffee cupping.

I second this.

You can count on two people at a minimum (myself and my girlfriend). She loves coffee and I literally do sensory work for a living so very much something we would both enjoy.

I would also recommend Okayama Bakery and Cafe in Anaheim! Amazing hojicha lattes (they’re not on the menu but you can still order them), and a lot of fun yummy specialty pastries! Usually a long line but it moves quickly, and there’s a decent amount of shaded outdoor seating nearby.
