Starfield - Anybody playing it?

Does the game have bullet damage? Like, will shotguns blow people’s limbs off?

Imo the biggest aspect of immersion is a good story, which it sounds like this might be lacking. I know top games like Totk. Botw, rdr2 are tough to replicate, but even gta 5 is immersive and was hopping it would similar. A space exploration game with a good story would be lights out! I thought about trying no man’s sky as I heard it improved since launch.

Its not really bloody like Fallout. I dont wanna say its not in the game, because it might? I havent payed much attention tbh

the main story has been pretty good thus far. I havent completed it yet. In typical BGS fashion, I get easily distracted by other quests and exploration. I’ve heard good things about NMS, but its not anywhere near as story driven as Starfield and their other games. More exploration for that one than story (unless its changed in recent updates)

@teamrocketop about 30 mins a day currently!

@zubat I don’t believe the game itself has an FPS cap, more like the FPS on certain settings/systems isn’t breaking any records. In my opinion, it is below what the acceptable standard should be for a modern game

I heard great things about Baldurs Gate 3! Try that out if you are not going to try starfield

I’m only like 6 hours into the game but I can see that review being pretty accurate. It’s fun so far. I’d say buy the Series X and just get Game Pass. Game Pass is absolutely the best deal in gaming in years. Play it on Game Pass and then if you really like it buy it once it price drops eventually like all games.

Sea of Stars is sooooo good and fun. Trying to balance playing both of these games lol

Sadly a hard pass for me. Really wanted this to look engaging and innovative, but it doesn’t. Which is annoying as hell since Fallout and ES are the only games I enjoy playing. Gonna be in Shady Acres by the time ES6 comes out too :older_man:t2: :sob:

Reviews have been impossible to gage. Some say it is an absolute masterpiece. Others say it’s boring. In typical Bethesda fashion, there’s an endless amount of side quests, worlds and weapons/vehicles to explore. Starfield from what I hear is that to a whole other level. You can go on one side quest on a ginormous planet, then 2 hours later, you realize you haven’t even completed 5% of the main story.

Fallout is my jam. Not just cause it’s Bethesda and all the stuff I mentioned above but the apocalyptic story is just so cool to me.

That’s what I hope Starfield doesn’t lack or otherwise, it’ll be a slog. I’m only 3 hours in.

Same. I was blown away by the customizability.

Everything below is spoiler free!

Just wanted to give my overall thoughts on the game. I played on Xbox Series X for reference.

I just finished the main story. I liked it a lot. Won’t say more beyond that, but it was good! I am still playing the game. Gonna focus on side quests and major faction questlines.

Overall, the game has been a 10/10 for me. Few bugs, nothing game breaking :crossed_fingers: Occasional crashes or freezes, but those are mostly confined to New Atlantis (the big city). Its not an issue if you save/quicksave often (which I do). There were maybe ~10 times where I crashed/froze in my nearly 3 days of in game time, so its not all that bad. If anything, the crashes are from me playing it for 8 hours straight…

Thought i’d show my current ship! It’s called “The Hydra” since it has five head like things on it. The middle red one is the cockpit. I built it largely from Deimos parts. It was around 300k to make, but its also quite large (2-3 times larger than the starting ship). I wanted to make this one more cosmetic. It is a class B ship. I am going to adjust it here and there as I get more perks and explore the other ship manufacturers. I may build an entirely new ship once I build up some more credits…

Thought I’d also share the Frontier (starting ship) that I used for ~95% of my playthrough. I upgraded fairly early on to this design and it has remained mostly the same. I actually built The Hydra above to experiment with larger class ships. I wish I had spent more time earlier on in shipbuilding, but it does take a lot of credits to build and a couple perks to really get going. However, there are ways of getting realllly nice ships for “free”  :pirate_flag: :parrot: :crossed_swords: :coin: :dagger: but I haven’t gone that route yet.

I’ve been thinking about picking this one up. I’m still finishing the first Octopath Traveler in the meantime.

Wow that’s a really cool ship. Can you design them or are they mostly prefabricated? Also, can I store inventory somewhere on the starting ship? I am overencumbered.

I don’t want to google help to avoid spoilers. Not only story spoilers but just spoilers as to what the game is like.

both. The Hydra was entirely built by me. The Frontier was already built and I just added a couple extra habs. The interiors are determined by the starship manufacturer and the type of hab you use. You can experiment with look and feel. Theres lots of options.

Ships have a cargo hold that you can store anything in. Usually there is a computer screen looking access point in the cockpit area. (its to the left of the cockpit seat in the frontier) You can upgrade your cargo hold through the shipbuilder to store more. You can also access your ship’s cargo hold by pressing the menu key (start on xbox) and then selecting your ship (bottom left corner), and then pressing whatever the cargo key is bound to (it should say in the bottom right corner). You have to be within 250 meters of your ship to access it this way.

Companions also have inventory you can dump some items into.

Nice, Octopath Traveller is on my wishlist, just waiting for holiday sales or a price drop.

I’ve arrived at the point before the final boss in Sea of Stars and while there’re a couple things that are easy to critique, overall it’s probably a 9.5/10 for me. Also, if you ever played and like Chrono Trigger or Super Mario RPG, you’d love Sea of Stars.

I absolutely love Chrono Trigger. It looks like SoS took a lot of inspiration from it so I’m excited to try it out.

I’ve put probably 10-15 hours into the game (I can’t trust my in game log because I leave the game idle a lot, in game log says 36 hours).

I think I’m going to put it down. It is overwhelming. I can barely walk around Atlantis without getting lost. There’s so many mechanics I don’t understand but I don’t want to search stuff online and get spoilers. I want the game to be all about uncovering as much mystery as possible.

About 5 hours in. I like it. Its a good saturday morning game. Im in no hurry to get through it. Have gotten farcalong enough to get to the big spoiler section everyone talks about so im going to just explore and side mission from now on.

I think I saw that they are going to be adding a city map soon but it’s insane they didn’t already have that since they did with previous games. The menu UI and system is absolutely horrible, I just end up watching YouTube videos of people showing the things.
