whatever month update. I can’t believe its been so long since an update! Since I am slowly getting back into collecting and this forum, I wanted to give an update on this card has been performing. As many of us have probably seen, some cards are performing extremely well while others are struggling. If you are a devout member of the church of Smpratte, you can see the fundamental through all the hype and can see nothing that happens in this hobby is really unexpected. With that being said, lets look at a few aspects of this card and how it has changed. First, this card had 763 new grades with 102 being psa 10 and 414 being psa 9. This percentage is remaining relatively consistent with how that card has graded traditionally. Again, I believe due to some factor associated with 2020, this card had a high chance of either being cut incorrectly, or shipped out to customers in subpar packaging. Remember, you had to make a purchase on the Pokemon center website and this card had to be shipped. All of this is leading to the card to have an 11% PSA 10 rate which is significantly lower than its contemporaries in the 2020 black star english category. For example, the Prerelease Lugia holo is grading at almost 69% PSA 10. NICE! Now when it comes to sales date there has been a slight uptick. Surprisingly, the card didn’t see much of a boost from the SD Bidoof and Charizard but nevertheless, it is seeing a slight increase after 4 years. Is it outpacing inflation? I don’t know, I didn’t look. Regardless, this card is the embodiment of the hobby since 2020 and a great case study. Hyped card that released during the hype, followed by various errors in printing and packaging due to the high demand that happened, high initial price and grading volume followed by a quick then steady decline in numbers. I believe this card will have its place in the history of the hobby and will see it’s time to be popular again. Pikachu, hard to grade, gimmick promo release, need I say more? The fundamentals are all there in my opinion and now its biding its time. I will also suggest now is a good time to get the SD Bidoof and Charizard to accompany the collection if you haven’t yet!
